Libertarianism is properly a socialist philosophy, but it's been coopted by the far right in America who then started exporting their bullshit to the rest of the world. It's entirely possible for two people to call themselves "libertarian" and have next to nothing in common in their understanding of what that means.

Most libertarian support of unions in America is a bad joke. It's meaningless feel-good rhetoric that completely ignores the entire history of unions in America. Corporations have a million ways to crush unions and union organizers. Without government regulations requiring corporations to engage with unions, unions are next to impossible in reality. But that's just fine with the kind of people attracted to the Libertarian party, because they don't live in reality.

Bernie was fucked by the establishment stranglehold over mainstream media, inherent flaws in the primary system, and some truly underhanded tactics. There has been no good evidence of any kind of tampering with the votes.

Bernie has always been a pragmatist. The progressive movement has nothing to gain by him obsessing over sour grapes. Contrast that with Hillary who will live the rest of her life locked into the day she lost.

Dems also changed their minds one actually supporting the incumbents here.

This has never been a standard they apply to progressives.

I think you might just be a time traveler from the 90s. Everyone expected Biden to run further to the center but he did the opposite. Here is a partial list of his left leaning promises.

  • Free community college
  • Universal Pre-K
  • Student debt forgiveness
  • Double Pell Grants
  • Expand Social Security
  • Increase refugee admissions
  • Expand path to citizenship
  • Raise taxes on the wealthy
  • Raise corporate tax rate
  • Strengthen unions
  • Bring back manufacturing
  • Expand broadband access
  • Voting rights for felons
  • Eliminate mandatory minimums
  • Eliminate cash bail
  • End private detention centers
  • Decriminalize Marijuana
  • Lower cost of prescription drugs
  • $15 federal minimum wage
  • 12 weeks paid medical leave
  • 7 days paid vacation
  • Rejoin Paris Agreement
  • Green energy assistance for disadvantaged communities
  • Block new fracking
  • Offer a public option
  • Create public health jobs corps
  • Restore engagement with Cuba
  • Constitutional amendment to eliminate private funding of elections
  • Reverse transgender military ban

The thing is, that the left-right spectrum isn't the only axis that voters use to evaluate politicians anymore. A mich more important axis is now pro/anti establishment. Americans almost universally despise the DC establishment. Hillary represented that establishment, while Trump mocked it. Trump was a message in the form of a molotov cocktail.

I remember them saying all the same exact things in the early 2000s after a slew of widespread disasters. Security will never be a higher priority than whatever cool new thing they want to sell.

Show of "force".

Yeah, fuck those 4 year old terrorists. They didn't deserve heads anyways. Those terrorists in graveyards deserved to be dug up. Controlled demolition of universities is necessary because most of the bricks are terrorists. If a handful of terrorists hide in a hospital, the only logical thing to do is bomb the fuck out of the hospital.

Nothing about how the IDF is behaving looks like targeted attacks on Hamas. Military experts everywhere have been telling Israel since the beginning that their tactics would fail and result in mass civilian casualties and a strengthened Hamas. Israel does it anyways because killing civilians is the objective. Destroying homes, hospitals, schools, universities, religious institutions, and even graveyards is the objective. Everything that ties the Palestinian people to their land is being destroyed in a bald faced effort to drive them away. That is genocide, and that is terrorism.

Alito also needs to report to prison, but that ain't happening either.

At least I get to live in the US where the right to protest is protected. /s

[-] Tinidril@midwest.social 16 points 7 months ago

If you have a working strategy to get there, I'm all ears. Despite Biden's lack of popularity, the vast majority of Democratic voters seem to be in the "don't challenge an encombant" camp.

[-] Tinidril@midwest.social 16 points 7 months ago

I don't buy it. Red states hate billionaires even more than blue states. Centrist Democrats have nothing to offer to Republican voters to change their minds. Progressives speak directly to the economic issues that plague red states.

Did voting for Biden stop Trump this last election?

Um, yes? It didn't stop Trump from breathing, but it stopped him from being president this term. Even if it somehow eliminated Trump, there is always the next Trump. There is no point where we can stop fighting to preserve past victories, even as we fight for new ones.

How many times are we supposed to vote Democrat against our own interests

None. Voting Democrat is always in your interests. (At least until something major changes) Voting corrupt Democrats out in primaries is even moreso. It would be nice if we lived in a system that can support more than two parties, but we don't.

Will it always be "neoliberalism or fascism" every election

That's why we fight to take over the Democratic party. Every obstacle to defeating Democrats in primaries has a corresponding obstacle to winning a general with a third party candidate. Winning as a third party is both more difficult, and more risky.

You want a shortcut, but there isn't one.
