Grainstorm

It's a ridiculously versatile granular sampler synthesizer. Obviously not for everyone, but it's super fun to just make weird soundscapes with. Even with just your phone mic.

I'm jealous you got to read Blood Music in high school. Though Chrysalids was also great and turned me into a long time sci-fi fan. Despite the horribly hypocritical ending.

Because it's the same rich people that own the media.

I recently downsized from 2 to 1. NGL, I miss the second in some circumstances, but I also don't miss the inclination to have YouTube or Netflix constantly open if I'm not using the second for anything else.

I loved the franchise when I was a kid for exactly those reasons, and then Star Wars started talking about failed trade negotiations and midi-chlorian counts. I haven't paid too much attention since then, but I get the impression I haven't missed much.

Yes! Self-employed, four-day work weeks, 4-6 hours a day. Enough money to be comfortable and to put some away for later. I have to clean the place by myself on that weekday off, but that's fine. Cathartic even.

Dr. Doolittle. The Eddie Murphy travesty. Bonus: it was a first date, too. We ended up staying together for almost four years. Shared trauma I guess.

Check out Violet Cold. It's pretty good stuff. And excellent for sleeping to!

Yeah, Samsung charges more for their products here than they do in other, even richer countries because they can. Korea's economy is super protectionist. Understandably so since Hyundai, Samsung, LG, et al basically run the country.

I've learned this the hard way. Got two nice, different Panasonics in a row only to have both fail after a relatively short time period ("relatively short" kinda varies for me since I think things that happened five years ago happened "the other day" these days). After the second failure, I just got the cheapest of the Panasonics, and it's outlasted both of the previous ones already and does just as good a job.

I remember a version of Chrome in the early days where I feel like they finally got the UI perfect. Of course, it's been changed a hundred times since then. Can't developers just leave well enough alone?

Edit: Within a day of posting this, I started getting pop-ups in Chrome saying something to the effect of "You can change the appearance of Chrome". I changed it alright. I'm using Firefox now.

Here's one

Here's another

A lot of "Voltaic Fauna Bodies" explores the theme, though there are some other, algorithmically generated melodies and things in there, too.
