What really sucks is that it was added somewhat recently with their new pvp mode, which I couldn't care less about. I paid for the game, and they made it unplayable for me.

You could try adding Steamdeck=1 %command% to the game's launch arguments.

FYI that sounds like ADHD to me. Not something to act on unless it becomes a problem, but I wish my parents would have recognized it when I was struggling.
