Id expand on this. I think the entire solar system has microbial life. Every crack it can exist it will. Asteroids, comets, the gas giants. Its likely all related too. Itd be mostly underground tho and hard to find. Probably multicellular life in some cases too like ice moons, and underground on mars in cave systems.
If i was to speculate on why theyd be taking so long its probably because theyve got some byzantine bureaucracy nightmare going on where theres like 3 different departments who are based thousands of lightyears apart who all have to come to a consensus on what to do. Even if they have FTL communications somehow it isnt necessarily instant either so they may be spending all this time going around getting approval from all the relevant groups lol. Thats not even taking into account if they have laws about like what technology is allowed to be brought into a solar system like ours. If you wanted to not accidentally give humans some crazy ass tech then the best way to do that is to just make a law like "Only tech that is a maximum of 300 years more advanced than the local species may be brought into the solar system" or something like that.
If thats the case they may need to seek approval just to bring more high tech shit in so they can use it to disable the nukes. It would also explain why the things crash sometimes. no AGI allowed in our solar system so the poor Aliens have to actually pilot these relics of ships themselves. From our perspective they may look super advanced but from their perspective its a horse and buggy lmao.

No they werent on to something because the rationale given doesnt line up with any legit reason to not eat pork. So at best they just were exercising an abundance of caution without understanding why. Pork needs like any meat to be prepared properly for consumption. If its a food they werent very knowledgeable on they wouldnt know how to prepare it safely. So instead of learning how they just banned it.
Now if you want to make an argument for not eating pork with modern knowledge you can. Pigs are extremely smart and even more so than dogs and some studies suggest chimps. So theres the moral argument not to eat it. But that isn't very convincing to me for pork. All animals are pretty smart and clearly have feelings and emotions and i eat them so why single out pigs to be nice to? I would like to see a transition to lab grown meats eventually, and for farms to treat animals humanely. Its not a very high priority for me on reforming society tho since we dont even treat eachother humanely yet.
Also to get in front of it before someone says "just be vegan/vegetarian then". I was for like 10 years and eventually had to stop because due to health related dietary restrictions i couldn't eat enough foods to get all the nutrients i needed. I have allergies and intolerances that if i were to stop eating animal products i wouldnt be able to eat the plant based alternatives that give the same type of nutrients. So i dont have a choice but to eat animals.
