We really need users like that on Lemmy to replicate the positive aspects of the Reddit community that are worth bringing over. Something original to here, hopefully.

In that case the issue is that it's user generated content. Just as you'd cite the references listed after a Wikipedia article for the source of that information rather than Wikipedia itself, Wikipedia policy favors references to established publications over those compiled by users in a manner similar to Wikipedia itself.

For the information to be verifiable, its original source has to be both clear and reputable.

When voting red will turn Ukraine into Palestine and make the situation in Palestine twice as bad, yes, it does work.

Who would go on vacation in central Afghanistan knowing that the Taliban is in control?

I have mine configured as a background service with a Rainmeter desktop widget to play music at a moment's notice. Works better than any official Windows option.

From the perspective of a piracy community, however, that's not a win.

As long as someone backed up the repository, it can still be forked, right?

The problem with federating with Threads is that then anyone who wants to join the Fediverse will just join Threads (especially the people already using Instagram or Facebook), leaving the success or failure of the Fediverse in the hands of a company whose interest is to attract as many people as possible to its platform, not contribute as an even partner in a federation.

Entirely agreed, though I wish there were more of a joint effort between Lemmy and Kbin communities to find novel ways of getting more redditors to switch over to the Fediverse. Wishful thinking perhaps, though it'd be nice to have more active communities around here.

While the suggestions by other commenters to use Qbittorrent's search functionality combined with add-ons (including one for Jackett integration) is a great way to index public tracker releases, I'd also recommend periodically checking for open signups to TorrentLeech given that some releases are either better seeded there or have higher fidelity video and audio tracks. Some private trackers are even better, but TorrentLeech is among the easiest to join.

Clearly they're just looking for a scapegoat to justify yearly price hikes. If it were anything else, they might have realized that the increased revenue stream isn't actually going to the people involved in content production...
