There's also just playing on community servers or hosting you own.

I'm not sure if it's been figured out how to do that for FFXIV yet, but there are others.

You can try the 2009scape single player mode, join the official server, or host it yourself.

PS2

Are we currently in a rut, or is there a chance for fresh ideas to emerge again?

Yes, and the problem is low standards. AAA games have resources, but no creativity. Indie games have creativity but no resources.

Back in the PS2 era, AAA games had resources and creators were making decisions instead of the people who went to business school.

I want to get as far away from the ad economy and ad culture as possible. Since there's a 0% chance the morons supporting it will ever learn from their mistakes, I'm starting to realize the only option going forward is to create new places where we aren't stuck with the "tunnel vision of the stupids."

It doesn't have to be large, start small and work our way out. It also doesn't have to be expensive. It shouldn't be too difficult to enforce a ban on physical advertisements within the borders, but digital advertising is a whole 'nother ballgame.

Even for a small town, would it be possible to sue companies for running ads in it? Similar to how the same company will show different content on their web services depending on where the user connects from to adhere to local laws. It would be fine if they just blocked connections from where advertising is illegal, but it's not okay for them to show ads to our residents.

Any insight into this besides useful idiots saying advertising is good or necessary would be greatly appreciated!

When I try to do this, the connection dialog hangs. I have PermitRootLogin yes in /etc/ssh/sshd_config and I can log in as the root user using the command line with sftp root@IP, but when I try it with Dolphin it does not work.

Update: AI was able to help me solve this. I'm not quite sure what the issue is, but running this and then trying to connect solved it:ssh-keyscan -p 22 <SERVER_IP> >> ~/.ssh/known_hosts

It just makes sense.

There is no boycotting and the bubble will never pop.

Militaries and businesses are going to use AI no matter what. They will pay for it with the money we give them.

Yeah, lemmy.world kinda sucks and we shouldn't be giving them as much power.

Looking at the Linked Instances, most instances have at most a few hundred instances linked. What happens when there are thousands, or possibly even millions? Could too many instances require significantly more powerful hardware, or even be impossible altogether?
