Totally agree.

It's nearly impossible in rich areas for young people to afford a family sized house and daycare.

We need to solve those problems if we want young people to have families.

Thanks for the effort post with great tips!

I would also really recommend having a physical community near you, not just online contacts.

I would even go so far as to say: join a progressive protestant church It's not a silver bullet, but the fascists in the US are Christian Nationalists and some of them will hesitate to mistreat a Christian. And some of them will feel an obligation towards a Christian.

This is a big part of why Martin Luther King wasn't killed earlier. The thugs in the 50s had no problem persecuting "godless heathens" in the McCarthy era, but black Christians were Christians.

And yes, they were also mistreated, but it would have been much worse if they had been atheist or communist.

Fascists divide the world very black and white. Us v. Them

Looking like them provides a survival advantage.

Bingo.

And also depends on which side China is on. Their war production dwarfs even the US, and I find it difficult to believe that it will all be spent fighting the US and Taiwan.

There is a very real possibility that these three countries gang up together and divide the world among themselves.

Agreed, this article would have made sense in 2020 or earlier.

And now we have the fediverse, which is causing a resurgence of content that is independent of Reddit or Discord.

I agree with this take.

We are wired to find the next problem and to solve it. Enjoy our work for a short while and then start looking for the next problem to solve.

Whether it is cultural or genetic, I don't know, but it's definitely very deep in our western psyche and it will not be going away any time soon.

The main problem I see is that a lot of people in Western society nowadays use complaining as a substitute for action, and so problems don't get solved, but people convince themselves that they took action by complaining.

My (great)-grandparents were part of the Dutch resistance during WW2. Along with a full 1.5% of the population.

Most people will not do anything, even if they are literally rounding up people for a genocide.

On the more positive side, a lot of people will support the resistance in small ways.

The number of people who actually, whole heartedly collaborated with the Nazi's was quite small.

Even some of the German soldiers stationed in their village would turn a blind eye. Some of them realized they were on the wrong side and they just did the bare minimum of what they needed to do to not get in trouble and not get killed.

And the apartheid, too.

Hamas is trying to keep as many alive as they can.

But (a) 2000 pound bunker busters don't discriminate between Palestinians and Israelis and (b) if the IDF comes too close to the hostages, their guards have to decide whether to let them go alive or to kill them.

In the case of the Druze guy, I can definitely see Hamas choosing not to kill him. But in cases of Israelis who also served in the IDF, the rational choice is to kill them instead of giving the IDF a propaganda win.

And finally, sometimes the IDF probably accidentally kills them and tries to blame Hamas if they can get away with it.

Then you'll need to educate yourself beyond what the government tells you.

Look up the ProPublica leaks. Someone is serving a very long jail time for leaking that out. It clearly shows how billionaires have very low taxable income, probably lower than yours.

To then say that you are upper class and Jeff Bezos is middle class is... Absurd.

And yet, we managed to mostly abolish slavery and child labour in most countries.

It's not going to be easy, but it can be done.

You might be interested to learn about the concept called "hostile witness".

Google is your friend. Hope that helps.

I wouldn't trust that website.

I have received Facebook memes from demented old people that were more convincing.

It seems like this site just specialises in outrage and slander.
