There is also the reduction of dependencies on non-democratic institutions for the government to function! The America first policy held by the US for a few years triggered a lot of planning from governments to increase their ability to sovereign from the states.

This risk extends even more to non-foss software though as organic fixes can't happen and the company that owns it HAS to fix it for you. Not all purchase agreements say they have to do this, and again it is our organizations that bare the risk then.

I really wish I had a proper portal interface that put a cli tools in my path and asked me if I'm sure I want to give the tool permission to that path (you know because of filesystem separation, obviously don't ask if it's already given that permission).

Basically I agree, flatpaks shell interactions are sub par.

Since it supports OCI images, and uses some of the same sandboxing tech I'd say there is a blurred line here for sure.

I custom install every time, partially to preserve my user data partition, partially because I don't like the defaults (I like mirroring my disks and leaving space to grow into later if I want)

Not targeted to be default until Fedora 41. So if you wanted to try it out you would have to install it your self.
