The wealthy own everything. The media, the campaign funding, the concert venues, the restaurants, the farmland, the water, the houses, the offices, the railroads, the textbook publishers. Fucking everything. The only thing our government does well is print more money for the rich.

I really hate that California dropped all new shower heads down to 1.8 gpm. I feel very alone in this outrage. People are flying around in private fucking jets, and you want us all to take one for the team and suffer a shitty dribble of a shower every day. A generous hot shower is one of the few things that makes our lives far better than our great great grandparents. Taking out the flow restrictor is like having sex without a condom. A whole generation of suckers won’t even know what they’re missing.

I hate ordering a beer in a restaurant and it comes in a shaker pint (conical pint), which is usually a 13 oz pour. How can we have a government who verifies the measurement of fuel pumps, but not beer, when beer costs like 15x more than fuel. Fill lines are a simple, cheap, and good solution.

I hate metering lights. For those who don’t know they’re stoplights on the on-ramp to an interstate highway. Waste of fuel, don’t help with traffic.

I really hate advertisements. It seems the more I block them, the more offensive they are when one gets through.

BaconBits was a Reddit tracker with a maximum user count around 6000. They eventually closed because most of the users could get the same content from other trackers, with better choices about bitrate or codec, or better seeding. I’m not convinced Lemmy has enough users to support a private tracker, I think you need like 20k active users to be worthwhile.

But you can’t control what your family does.

Climate change is moving water around, not creating or destroying it. Warmer air holds more water, so overall, the atmosphere can hold (and at times drop) more water than before. Permanent ice is melting as well, so that puts a bit more fresh water into the air and ocean. The water in the atmosphere is constantly circling the globe, forced largely by the rotation of the earth. Warmer temperature also makes for more evapotranspiration, so more fresh surface water is pulled into the air. But that same water will eventually fall elsewhere.

The sun is the source of energy that drives wind, rain, and evaporation. When you trap more of that energy with GHGs, it just turns up the volume for all of those things. There’s always seasonal and geographic variability, but the extremes increase because all those phenomena are solar powered.

Just ban plastic surgery from the contestants.

Negative pricing during peak solar hours has also been happening in California. Longer-term negative pricing has been happening for more than a decade in the Columbia River basin, due to high wind (and wind subsidies per MWh) and high hydroelectric flows.

It’s pretty simple. Negative pricing creates a strong incentive for energy storage. We need more energy storage to support more renewable energy. This was inevitable. I’d love to see a future where people driving their EVs get a pop-up alert: FREE CHARGING AVAILABLE FOR THE NEXT 35 minutes. And the charging network gets paid to take up excess load.

That’s about 6 kilowatt*weeks or equivalent to 31 gallons of gas.

Billionaires have a completely different level of capital as the doctors, lawyers, engineers, and business owners who have $1-5 million in assets. I’m not going to fault somebody for being successful and using their money to buy capital to make more money. Billionaires are the only ones who should be named, shamed, and blamed. It’s an entirely different level of greed and exploitation, because it’s totally needless. It’s like you already won capitalism, but that’s not enough, no, you have to rig it so that nobody else ever wins like you did. Those people are so rich they can employ bot farms to throw fuel on the social media fires that keep us all hating each other instead of them. It’s pretty simple. Don’t trust anybody with a private jet.

Don’t. And beyond that if you use their WiFi, connect to a VPN. Best just use LTE.

You wouldn’t bring your life saving water-resistant GPS and communication device into the mountains when sustained exposure to weather would kill you? Also most of Tahoe has pretty good cellular reception, especially high up on a gondola.

A part-time lecturer makes $3100 for a 3-unit class for the semester. Basically volunteering.
