Our eyes also have the ability to desensitize to higher levels of light input, so the sun at high noon will be really bright but it’s the same as if you were in the complete dark for an hour and walked out into a brightly lit room. The eye gets used to the bright light. The same thing happens walking inside a low-light house from a bright day, it will take a minute to adjust but once you do your eyes have a completely different perception of light intensity.

With the solar eclipse, even 1% of the sun showing still lights an area greater than indoor lighting or perhaps even outdoor lighting, so we perceive it as still somewhat bright. This is sunset-level sunlight but the source is above instead of behind the horizon.

Doesn’t mention what transitioned the Millenials into phones: The Game Boy. And before that, the television. However television is much more passive than gaming, the video games came first then social media and mobile phones gamified real-life simulation.

Edit: I like games as much as the next person, but come on let’s be real. I have a very difficult time putting my phone down and when I was a kid I had a difficult time putting the Game Boy down. It’s a habit first. It’s a dependence second.

Yeah, but it could be they live in one of the states driving American inflation at a ridiculous rate and $6500 a month is barely enough to cover rent and bills.

Does Spotify affect the music market or does the music market affect Spotify’s mode of operations? Can Spotify really exist in an ecosystem where artists are fairly represented and paid equally? Look at Bandcamp, it’s been trashed and deserted because the companies that have taken advantage of it found the model unprofitable by their estimates.

There of course are many things Spotify could do, but unfortunately the momentum in the music industry is towards profit and not actual talent or social consciousness. Spotify is owned by money makers, not individuals with true appreciation for the art of music.

I have the opposite problem on Windows, my computer stops running whenever it goes to sleep. I think it’s Nvidia-related, but I’m not entirely sure how to track it down. The errors I get are not very helpful.

Notice that those addicts also have a severely degraded quality of life. Your comfort zone is not something always meant to bend or break, if your body is not happy you should be considering why the alarms are sounding. Cirrhosis and COPD are not fun lifelong conditions.

Unfortunately hiding sudo from root would lead to much greater issues. You can remove sudo privileges from a non-root user, but I don’t think there’s a feasible way to do so for root.

Does your new user have a proper shell setup? If you type bash in the new user’s terminal does it give you anything?

I wish this were the case. I have to manage multiple Wordpress sites and its backend is a sticky mess of outdated PHP conventions and plugins with very little standardization and even less thorough verification. If you’ve ever had to migrate sites or move new content from one site to another, if you’ve ever had to shift domains or deal with multi-site configurations, you will realize that Wordpress makes things easy for the end-user but there’s a reason there are so many managed Wordpress offerings out there.

What makes the port redirections difficult to implement in the code? I’m imagining the kernel has some way of handling this without too many external libraries but I’m not well-versed enough on this to know for sure.

This already happened but it wasn’t the automotive company that took it down, if you look at the page now it’s an advertisement for some “AI-driven” advertising thing

I wonder how much someone is squatting that one for? 😂

Sounds to me like there needs to be an open-source guitar tabs database if there isn’t one already
