Yes. Both things are true. It's not like some weird gordian knot that you have to strain your brain to figure out. The majority of the Russian army at this point are very poorly trained mobilized soldiers. They still have a few veteran units, but after a year and a half of fighting, most of them have been replaced with mobiks. And Russia is now calling for another 450,000 people to be conscripted, despite having very little in the way of equipment to give them.

I mean, I'm a fuckin' weirdo who loves both heat and humidity. So I'm not really the target audience for that particular argument. But I get that I'm a weirdo, and most people don't like living in the desert or a swamp. Personally, I'm much more turned off by their politics than I am their weather.

I actually have Fedora installed on my desktop, and Pop_OS installed on my laptop! I've always been a big fan of the RedHat way of doing things (Yum / DNF & RPMs, the fs organization, etc), but I've gotta say, I really prefer the Pop!_OS user experience when I'm in the GUI.

As others have said, it probably doesn't matter which one you use if your primary purpose is gaming. They'll both run Steam's proton engine just fine. If you're looking for COD, specifically, you're likely going to run into some issues; ProtonDB says that support for those games is not perfect. But a lot of games will work just as well on linux as they do on Windows with it.
