A cheap USB hub solves everything you are describing. You can just leave it dangling from behind.
Saying that, I'm not in favour of only usb-c motherboard though.

Beamer has a very high steep learning curve, especially when you just want a few slides to show preliminary results. In PowerPoint you literally drag the image, resize, and that's it.
Also I feel that beamer pushes the user towards the "bullet point" presentation, which sometimes can be very boring.
For documents, I love latex, but I actually prefer LibreOffice or onlyoffice when it comes to presentations.
Like or not, it's a de facto standard. Good luck trying to convince your colleagues to change their workflow.
I love Linux, but I would never recommend using Microsoft Office on Linux especially if you work in a collaborative environment. Saying that Linux can run Microsoft office without any issue is a blatant lie. I run virtual machines basically so I can run Microsoft Office, but I don't think everyone wants to go though that much hassle.
Because it will stop being "private", which in this case is a blanket term for elite schools. If everyone goes to elite schools, by definition it's not elite anymore.
Or reference managers. I'm in academia and it's a pain because I can't edit anything on Linux without breaking the fine, I tried everything, LibreOffice, Only office... Nothing works.
I think you misunderstood, if Elon were to be taken seriously I would definitely accept it, but are you really sure he will go though the deal? That guy is a clown, can't be trusted a bit.
I don't think it's immoral, but who in their right mind takes Elon seriously? Would you really accept 1 billion dollar from a known attention-seeker scammer, if you tattoo your forehead? No thanks.
If this were coming from Jeff, or even a drug lord, I would probably be ok with it, as long as they are serious and without childish conditions.
Yeah, but that piece of software didn't came up to existence out of nowhere. Someone invested time, or paid for infrastructure to complete it. When you steal electricity, most of the cost is because of the infrastructure you used, which you will never own anyway.
I agree information should be free, as long as the generator of that information agrees with it.
Saying that, I still pirate things, not because I think I'm entitled to do it, that's a very poor excuse.
I'm guessing he means in engineering (excluding computational). I'm a chemical engineer, and yes, MATLAB is everywhere, only few know about Octave, and python is used mostly for personal projects, I've never seen it in an industrial environment, apart maybe web base user interfaces, but don't get me started with LabVIEW.
I hear that everywhere in here, but it doesn't make any sense. Do you own the electricity network? Do you own the maid that clean your house? Do you own the room in the hotel? Is it justified not to pay for those services?
There are still lots of phones like that... Is this considered discontinued?
I highly disagree with recommending regular users to use virtual machines, it defeats the whole purpose, at the end of the day, you are still using windows, and on top of that, it adds additional complexities that can only create frustration to users.
