Ah, interesting. Thanks for the mention, will check it out too.
Papillon is pretty good, read it quite a while back. I remember there was some controversy about whether it's true story or not. Either way, it was an interesting read.
Just looked up Thieves' World series, it looks really interesting. Adding it to my wishlist!
This sounds really interesting. How are you liking it?
Bookmarked, will read it when I have some free time and let you know.
Well, as someone who care about privacy (online and otherwise), there have been moments in our recent history where it has been very 1984. At least in that one aspect. And there are places in the world, where "alternate truths" spread by the government make it impossible to discern what's what (at least for average citizen). But yeah, I agree, we haven't gone full 1984 yet.
How did you like Death of a Salesman? Just looked it up, apparently it's considered one of the best American plays of 20th Century.
Wow, Irene had a tough life. So, is Suite Francaise unfinished?
Looked it up, saw the name "Peter Newman", and heard the voice of Seinfield, "Hello, Newman".
What are you not liking about it? Writing style? Or issue with story / world-building / characters etc?
Haha, yeah, I agree, fantasy / sci-fi is the most dominating genre, though we do get some mentions of different genres.
I think this has to do with the lemmy demographics, it's still not mainstream. So, the popular genres are skewed more toward geek-ish crowd.
Ah, I have heard of Priory of the Orange Tree, but doesn't that come before "A Day of Fallen Night"?
Yeah, they are pretty light and quick. Like that about them, not every book need to be dense.
As for The Aeronaut's Windlass, I try not to start unfinished series now (with some exceptions). He started Cinder Spire series about 8 years ago, and the second book is releasing in November of this year. I have read his Codex Alera series, and will read this when he finishes it.
He used to be a very consistent writer, releasing a book pretty much every year, let's hope he gets back into the groove.
Once you learn a language enough that you can read a book (with the help of dictionary), it becomes much quicker and fun to get better in it.
