Internet Archive (sued by publishers, then sued by music labels), now Wikipedia being sued... I'm just saying... Sounds like there's a declared war against historical archives and freedom of information.
Have you ever heard of the Riemann hypothesis? Since 1859 it's yet to be solved. The generalization of prime numbers (i.e. a function f(n) that yields the nth prime) would impact fields such as Navigation Systems and Traffic Management, Communication Systems and Satellite Communication (i.e. your Internet connection could become more efficient and faster), Astrophysics and Cosmology, Quantum Mechanics, AI and Machine Learning, E-commerce, Finances and Algorithmic Trading, among many other fields. (Yeah, it seems like nothing. /s)
Ubuntu isn't as paid as Windows. Also, newer Ubuntu versions don't need the user to throw their machine away because TPM 2.0 or NPUs are missing. Maybe these are two of the main reasons why nobody is complaining about its EOL.
Uninstalled (it was bloat).
Same vibe:
For me, a Zennial, born between Millennial and Gen Z, I won't have kids due to following reasons:
- My abyssal lack of/difficulties with social interaction (I'm practically an hermit), friendships and relationships (not sure what "loving someone" is/means; I feel more comfortable among literal "demonic entities" and computers than with people)
- Climate changes turning Earth into a vision of underworld that even Dante couldn't imagine, with ever-increasing scorching temperatures.
- Other complex and multifaceted political, societal, technological, esoteric, philosophical and scientific reasons too long to be summarized and enlisted.
- And, of course, finances: it'd become worse for my hypothetical son/daughter.
Not that Earth and Nature couldn't bear more individuals (considering a mutual respect between the Homo sapiens and the whole biosphere, a respect that Homo sapiens clearly lacks), but the idea of a children growing in a world where 120°F/48°C is the "new normal" can't be bearable. Not to mention that Homo sapiens is walking towards extinction due to our poor relationship with the environment and with ourselves. Unfortunately, next generations will inevitably face ever-increasing, deadly issues. Not only humans, other animals too (some are already becoming extinct).
"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face – for ever" (1984 - George Orwell).
As a Brazilian, I can unfortunately relate to the exact same scenario...
As long as it didn't pollute the fedi timeline with ads, AI slop and partnered posts, that'd be OK to me... (If someone worrying about our posts/comments being used by AIs, it's already happening even for those instances that does not federate with Threads; Proofs? Once I searched for my own username and I got surprised on how my fediverse posts are spread all across the results through federated instances that I never heard about, so if my fedi content shows on Google, it's certainly being fed to some AI datasets)
Simultaneously, Microsoft has been expanding their efforts so to require Windows users to upgrade to Windows 11, even those who own old machines that don't have TPM 2.0, while those machines are prohibited to really upgrade to Windows 11, meaning that their owners would need to buy another PC/laptop. Several Windows users were using a cheat to install Windows 11 without TPM 2.0, but Microsoft has been patching it, so it's going to be a no more. Users of Windows 10 will have two options: buy another PC or migrate to Linux. I'd bet Microsoft already knows the latter possibility. Several distros generally come with the option "dual-boot installation" as default, so there are many novel Linux users, migrating from Windows, that chose to keep Windows together with Linux (so to not lose files and configs they made on Windows). What if something broke Linux and these users that are trying to escape Windows are now forced to use Windows?
This makes me wonder: what exactly happened to the Coffin Dance meme, was it assimilated by some brand so to fell in disuse? Did the Coffin Dance guys danced with the Coffin Dance meme's coffin?
As a Brazilian nervously watching the unfolding of a potentially global mess, I bring you the best Brazil can offer: memes! Here's a pretty relatable one (Original cartoon from Maurício de Souza, Turma da Mônica)
