I don't. Personally, I don't believe that AI assisted coding has a future, and I don't like the quality of what it produces. Either we achieve AGI or whatever the finance bros are hyping up this week, or we don't. If we do, then AI can write code without having a human in the loop, so "vibe coding" is dead. If we don't, then AI code stays where its at right now, which is garbage quality. After a few years vibe coding disasters, demand for human coding will increase, and my skills will be much more valuable than even before all this craziness. In that case, letting those skills atrophy today would be the wrong move.

And if I'm wrong? Well, if AI code generation makes it so anyone who doesn't know how to code can do it... then surely I'll be able to figure it out? My existing skills wouldn't hurt.

Well, fuck. I just learned about this drama, and it doesn't seem very positive for Bazzite's future. What is it about Discord servers that turns adults into spoiled brats? Idk whether Antheas' version of events are 100% truthful, but he's at least one point about some of the questionable changes recently, and I've seen some power tripping from the Bazzite devs wrt Ptyxis and Bazaar.

Luckily, since it's ostree based I can switch back to eg Fedora Kinoite with a single command if things get too bad. It would be a real shame if Bazzite died though, as it's one of the best out of the box experiences for gaming PCs/handhelds. For now, I'm sticking with it.

Systemd haters always freeze up when you point out the fact that Poettering did, in fact, know better and that systemd has been incredibly successful and beneficial for the ecosystem.

The fact they chose moonlight as their streaming protocol is proof they vibe coded the entire idea lmao. Moonlight/Sunshine are reverse engineered implementations of Nvidia's proprietary GameStream product, designed for low latency streaming of game video/input on a typical home network. No competent engineer would choose that for this kind of application.

De Moraes said Bolsonaro’s tampering with his monitor fed his suspicions that he would attempt to flee the country in “the confusion that would be caused by a demonstration organized by his son," according to The Associated Press.

Looks like it's time for another arrest

Signal is centralized, on the Signal foundation. It went down because Signal put all their eggs in one basket (data center). This is a (arguably) reasonable and common business decision/practice, and there's no way to predict outages. However, all users of the Signal app are at the mercy of these business decisions made by the Signal foundation. Whether or not Signal is using a distributed architecture internally is irrelevant.

Compare Signal to Delta Chat, which uses standard Email servers as well as custom optimized chat relays to implement the chat network. That is truly decentralized. It doesn't matter if all of AWS goes down, delta chat users will still be able to communicate using other email servers.

Most light themes I've encountered don't seem to grasp the concept of 'contrast'. I bet if you were to survey light theme users, you'd find that most of them have nonstandard/weird settings on their monitors. Chrome dev tools, Xcode, and Visual Studio's light themes are all great though, as they have proper contrast and don't look like rainbow vomit.

But one other issue with light themes is that for some people (myself included), it makes 'eye floaters' stand out more. I'm fortunate that my case isn't terrible, but I can see it being a serious problem for some people, especially older developers.

American Big Tech is the world leader because they employee and train the best engineers in the world

OR

American Big Tech is the world leader because they employee illegal anti-competitive business practices and bribe/lobby US officials to not stop them

It's obvious which is correct. All of big tech has been leaking competence for a long time, and this AI frenzy is only accelerating it. The solution to these problems is to enforce the law and break them up, as smaller companies can't survive by being incompetent, and can't afford to compensate engineers with ridiculous salaries/inflated stock just to prevent them from joining/launching a competitor (or in the case of big tech, using illegal agreements to not poach from each other).

The worst part is that even if this problem reaches its apex, and some/all of these companies start to fail, the market won't correct itself. I can already see the government bailing them out so they can keep doing the same shit.

“I feel liberated,” one top banker told the paper. “We can say ‘retard’ and ‘pussy’ without the fear of getting cancelled.… It’s a new dawn.”

I don't think people realize how fucking smoothbrain incompetent the powerful and wealthy are. I think everyone understands that there is rampant nepotism in this country, but don't notice the scale of the problem. One of America's biggest weaknesses is the deference we give to people who have a lot of money, regardless of where that money came from.

These nepobabies will elect a fascist government that eagerly wipes it's ass with the US constitution, just so they can OwN tHe LiBs on social media. It's the type of thing that can only come from people who have never faced any kind if hardship or consequences in their lives. Who cannot even imagine that the same constitutional rights they're trying to trample are protecting them, because they can't imagine an existence where they need protection.

Fuck these clowns.

Isn't the dev behind rustdesk (at least the original) anonymous? I remember that standing out as a red flag for me when I was evaluating options, and ended up going with Mesh Central instead (which works much better imo)
