The bit of text about Ethel offering an out surprises me: I've done that fight around eight times and she has never once offered me the option.

I personally use QKSMS, which isn't perfect, but it's all I've been able to stand since Signal dropped SMS support.

This RCS stuff scares me a bit, because it sounds like it will function over a data connection and not be nearly as universal of a standard as SMS/MMS is. There are already a million such apps and standards if one wants to use data for messaging. Trying to sneak it on top of SMS is very annoying. If I use my SMS app, I want my messages to be sent as such. Getting a surprise data bill shouldn't be a fear.

If it makes you feel any better, patch 4 actually freed up 20 gigabytes of drive space for me once it finished installing.

The amount of spam is horrendous. Once we get the instance blocking feature, I'll be blocking Kbin immediately.

I have a Kindle. It does not support EPUB. This does affect me. I used to use a bookmarklet to send articles to my Kindle, and this would make that unfeasible.

ADD is just the outdated term for ADHD. One does not need to have hyperactivity to be diagnosed with ADHD; there are multiple subtypes.

I made my own with Stylus. At its simplest it's 2 lines of CSS which pales in comparison to what Dark Reader is going with, and then I have one section for exempted websites, and two sections for websites I use a lot that needed specific small fixes. It uses basically no resources, and doesn't slow anything down.

The one downside is that because it uses CSS filters, some colors become less brilliant. This is a known flaw with how CSS calculates colors for hue-rotate.

Pasted in a comment below.

Yeah, the documentary may be gory, but the site itself is absolutely fine. I don't think this was fair.

The original article does specify contiguous US.

Agreed, and it's a problem we need to nip in the bud before it becomes entrenched.

I'll start!

I really like The Enchiridion by Epictetus, which is a very short introduction to Stoic philosophy. Stoic philosophy ties in closely to simple living for me because it allow me to focus on the things that I can control and that matter to me, letting go of those things that I cannot control. Meditations by Marcus Aurelius is another Stoic text, longer than the Enchiridion, that gives insight into the life of someone living their Stoic values. It's a series of journal entries with much insight into daily challenges, and I have taken away a lot from it. Here's one of my favourite quotes:

If you seek tranquility, do less. Or, more accurately, do what's essential – what the logos of a social being requires, and in the requisite way. Which brings a double satisfaction: to do less, better. Because most of what we say and do is not essential. If you can eliminate it, you'll have more time, and more tranquility. Ask yourself at every moment, "is this necessary?"

Please make sure to mention both the title and author, and how the book relates to simple living for you!

If you're looking to do something about this, please read [https://lemmy.ml/post/1441038](this great post) about dopamine detoxing! It can be very hard at first, but once you're through the first few weeks it becomes much easier. I've been writing down my feelings as I take a few weeks off from my smartphone which has helped immensely.

Note: this is an audio piece. There is text that accompanies it on the page, but the radio segment is the reason I'm sharing this link!

Ever noticed how the feeling doesn't last when you buy a new item? What you're experiencing is known as "hedonic adaptation" — or the "hedonic treadmill." This phenomenon is what pushes us subconsciously to consume more, to not feel satisfied with what we have, and to dream of fresh starts. But we are not powerless in this: knowledge is power, and once we know about the hedonic treadmill effect, we can work to counter it.
