@theskyisfalling I mean discworld is supposed to be funny. This guy named the bad guys Murderalls and all the people are named all fantasy names but one of the main characters is named Matt which felt like when the little grocery cart makes a noise every 10 seconds pushing it down an aisle. The women are the problem and bitchy. The men are quiet. Their problems would dissolve if they talked to each other just a little. The world building is epic and great but execution……..

@theskyisfalling @dresden don’t do wheel of time. It’s dumb. It’s epic and everything but dumb. Just clumsy writing and concepts. Some super original stuff but truly a lot of schlock.

@cdipierr try Savage Dominion by Luke Chmilenko after you’re done with Abercrombie! I’m currently on Blood Song by Anthony Ryan which I would also recommend.

@cdipierr @dresden I banged through them and read sewuentially til Red Country. It was a good romp for several books but does Peter out. I kept just wanting to read the Logan portions and there was very little of that eventually.

@arotrios this is the original fantasy series that got me hooked on reading. The search for all the books in upstate New York at a young age with no money was formative to say the least. I worry reading them now it may be problematic with a bit of clash of civilizations theme between the white good guys and brown bad guys. I’m open to being told I’m wrong as it’s been a while since my last re-read in the 2000s.

@cwagner @dresden thanks for the recommendations. I’m currently enjoying book 2 of Ravens Shadow by Anthony Ryan. In the LitRpg world I really enjoyed Savage Dominion by Chmilenko, a great series, that has a Discworld tone through out.
