I think he meant save the actual notes themselves. Often necessary for sync engines to replicate the notes to other devices and manage version control.

Loosing vast amounts of historical posts or would I say "cultural heritage" is a shame but I couldn't trust the party hosting it ...

So with Twitter I did the same, 13 years of tweets. Even took a one month payment on a bulk erase / unlike / unfollow / unretweet service to get it done in a reasonable amount of time.

Thanks for this write up, appreciated because sometimes (like on LinkedIn, I know don't ask) it feels like everyone is an AI guru talking hype hype hype.

Do you plan and share on web (laptop or pc) or on mobile? I use OSMand web for planning and syncs with OSMand Android (paid version).

How would that be leaking, home hosters aside?

Thanks everybody, I learned a ton these 2 days. Like a ' jump' in understanding. Not only the specific answer to my concrete question but also on a conceptual level as well.

The thing that makes Linux next level for me now is the extra 'abstraction layer'.

Thing is, for me, digital files always were as tangible as the analog object they represent. A digital document is as 'real' as a paper document. An email as real as a letter. But untill now files where 'real' digital artefacts. And thats ... a bit different with 'virtual' files, sort of.

Anyway, new concepts to explore which is great!

I dont want to use them either but because of lack of alternatives I do use contactless pay of my banks app itself. Does require NFC etc

AFAIK its "by design" meaning an inherent property of the fediverse.

If I dont follow someone or my instance isnt federated with those of other followers we cant see each others comments or likes etc

I believe Firefox had their fair share of problematic clones but they dont protect from that by licensing their code in a special way. They protect their brand and use of logo etc

So you can use the code and create something "new", you just cant call it Firefox anymore.

There is a big difference between posting in public non confidential stuff and an app tracking all your clicks and likes and device contacts and telemetry

I supposed the topic starter meant the last one
