Can confirm. Last week, I got home from a ride, stopped in front of the garage, couldn't unclip, and promptly fell over. It turned out one of the bolts fell out from the cleat during the ride, so the cleat just rotated, instead of unclipping. D'oh. Fortunately, I mostly landed in grass, though I did scrape my ankle a bit.

I was on the phone with our ISP after our internet service went out. The rep asked me if the box had a green light on it - yes - then asked me to plug a light into the same outlet and confirm the power was on. I said, "Look, I understand you have to follow a script, but you literally just asked me to confirm the power light on the box was on. Clearly the power is working."

Same ISP sends me an email whenever we have a power outage letting me know that our internet might not work when the power is out. (I've joked that this email arrives before the ceiling fans have come to a stop.) But when my internet goes down, they're completely clueless. "Ohhhh it must be that your power is out even though we monitor that closely and aren't showing a power outage right now!"

It's not just fast food. They're getting the attention because they're supposed to be cheap, but the price of eating out in general has jumped over the last 4 years or so.

For example: We often eat at a local barbecue place, usually getting the same order each time. (During the pandemic, we would get take out.) I don't have the numbers in front of me, but when I looked it up a while back, I think we were paying ~$15 more now for the essentially the same order. Adding $15 on to a ~$30 order is a huge increase, as a percentage.

In general, our dining out expenses have gone way up since the start of the pandemic, but we aren't eating out more often or ordering more extravagant foods. The prices have just gone up. (When we go out for meals, we go to a mix of fast food and casual dining places, some with counter service.)

I think we're overlooking the 173 other people that voted against this bill, too.

I mean, yeah, this guy is exceptionally bad, but a lot of other people also voted against it...

And the critics of Columbus WERE RIGHT! He was vastly underestimating the size of the earth. If North America hadn't existed and it had just been one big ocean, he and the expedition would have perished in the middle of nowhere. Of course, the size had been calculated before his expedition (the actual values turned out be extremely close to what had been calculated), so he should have known better. There's a reason he had trouble getting funding for his expedition...

I'm still somewhat frustrated that our history classes taught (maybe still do, I've been out of high school a long time) that all the naysayers thought the earth was flat.

It's crazy. I've read in a few books (fiction, of course) that mention, in passing, that the 40 hour workweek was now replaced by a 32 hour workweek, or something similar.

When do we get to reap the benefits of all of these boosts to productivity?

That's how it works in Europe, at least in cities I've visited (mostly Germany).

If we'd see public transit as a public good, rather than something that's supposed to be a profit center, maybe we could be a little smarter about it...

Don't forget the Wall and no man's land between two countries where guards are authorized to shoot to kill!

So he could order a hit on Trump without repercussions? Is this really what Trump and his fans want?

I'm a little sad about this - the planned Honda looked nice, the range would have been fine for us (we usually take our pickup on longer road trips anyway), and I was hoping to replace our Mazda 3 with one if it drove nicely and all that. I admit that I had some concerns about the GM underpinnings, though - my experience with American brands is rough, and our experience with GM is the roughest.

We plan to hit the auto shows next year to get an idea of what we want to look at more closely.

So....Trump did nothing wrong, but he's telling a witness not to testify to his not-wrongdoing. Got it.
