/u/spez: "Thread? What thread? Everyone on reddit loves Trump."

Oh well.

Look, I have no problem with people worshiping God or Allah or the Flying Spaghetti Monster. This world is hard enough, if that helps them navigate it, GREAT.

Where I do have a problem is the hypocrisy. Christians beat us over the head with their bible, claiming they're the ones being oppressed, then they vote for a guy that's been divorced three times and cheated on his pregnant wife with a prostitute. The bible says we should help the needy, but these "Christians" support cutting programs that do just that. They worship the prosperity gospel, which is the opposite of what the bible actually says. The bible says, "Love thy neighbor" but many Christians seem to have added, "...unless he's gay, Muslim, or not white." I'm a cyclist, and I firmly believe that some drivers would happily run me off the road on their way to Sunday mass.

They go to church every Sunday and proclaim themselves "good Christians", but then treat everyone else like shit the other 6 days and 23 hours. If my Catholic education was correct, God cares more about your behavior during that time you're NOT in church. Maybe they'll get theirs in hell, but they're making life shit here on earth for everyone else.

I know, it's not all Christians. Unfortunately the 90% that are doing these things are ruining the reputation of the rest.

Correct, there was.

I mean, people get injured or killed in car crashes, too, or even just doing things around the house. Life is never completely safe.

On average, you're extending your life by cycling. Unfortunately, incidents do occur sometimes.

Irony can be pretty ironic sometimes.

"If you want to know how Linux works, ask a Slackware user."

I've mentioned this a lot lately, but I used Slackware from the late 90s (3.x days) until about 2009 on my desktop and laptop, and about 2017 on my server. I just got tired of dealing with dependencies and switched to Debian (all three run Debian now). I had the CD subscription and would automatically receive the latest version about twice a year.

Patrick Volkerding (if my memory is accurate) has my utmost respect, and I do feel a little bad about abandoning it, but I just didn't have the time to deal with it any more.

I'd add that if one of the basic libraries is compromised, you can't trust the anti-virus or really any other program on that system.

Well said. I originally compiled my own kernels because I thought it was something you just did to use Linux. I also compiled hundreds of them, probably. Now it's stock kernel all the way. Not worth the effort and time and headache.

I've never used Rust, but this definitely reminds me of my days running Slackware on my computers.

Oh, hey, I'd like to run this new package. Great. I'll need this dependency...and that one...and the one over there....

I know it now has dependency management, but I just couldn't do it any more. I was tired of worrying about what was going to break. I started with Slackware in the 3.x days, too.

I switched my server to Debian, and I feel like I never have to worry about it any more. Laptop and desktop are both Kubuntu, but they're going to go to Debian at some point in the near future.

It is incredibly frustrating that Christians see this man as a good person, basically the antithesis of everything they supposedly believe. Three wives? Cheating on your pregnant wife with a prostitute? Doesn't go to church.

I hope the Lincoln Project or whatever it was saved some good stuff for this election.

Two people down voted this. I assume they are unaware of the history of that domain.

Hint - you did NOT want to use the wrong TLD at work or school.

Ehhh if you have a serious question or a problem about some niche thing, and no one here can answer it, you're just wasting your time. I had an issue with a tool I have, but I couldn't find a community that it made sense to ask about it in. I'm not going to start a community for every sub I had subbed on reddit.
