this is not exactly headline news to most, but the US Forest Service will not be hiring any seasonal employees at all next year, except for firefighters, due to budget constraints. the forest service employs thousands of seasonal workers across the country in trails, maintenance, archaeology, natural resource management and science positions, etc. without seasonals it'll be a hell of a lot harder to keep the millions of acres of forest service land well maintained - especially considering that many non-fire seasonals are called in to help fight the fires in one way or another when they begin, and since so much FS land can hardly be called "well maintained" already. i have to imagine this will also put a strain on the national park service and other land management agencies who'll have to deal with thousands of applicants to a far fewer number of jobs - not to mention the seasonals at those agencies who'll be looking at this and seeing that their departments could be making the same decisions a few years down the road.

as always, congress can spend billions at the drop of a hat for bombing children across the planet, but breaks out the fucking abacus when it comes to hiring people who actually do useful and decent work. wonder how long before they just decide to straight up sell entire forest service ranger districts to timber companies or ranchers. can't be too long, at this rate!

tangentially news related - america's worst magazine, the atlantic, has unveiled next month's cover. it amazes me that liberals have spent 8 fucking years now convincing themselves that trump is not widely beloved by the entire republican party and that he is instead dragging them along. he had like 90+% approval among republicans during his term! but these fancy lads from the ivies have surrounded themselves with the half-dozen remaining die hard romneyites in the country and believe that they represent the party, not the skidoo dealership heir who blew the family fortune on the iraqi dinar and has been in prison since january 6

https://xcancel.com/jessicaschulb/status/1826613836239237202#m democrats remove death penalty abolition from their party platform, first time since 2012. it must feel so freeing for them to finally be at the point where they don't even have to pretend to want to change anything anymore

Hello, and welcome to "What the fuck is wrong with the Germans," vol. MCCXLVII. Tonight's top story: "German "activist" in "Israel" is protesting that he cannot join the IDF - because he isn’t Israeli, Jewish, and can’t speak Hebrew"

Very funny article ( archive link ) about a growing bizarre trend in germany: faking Jewishness.

Some years ago, a friend of mine was invited to a Shabbat dinner. The attendees all gave the appearance of being religiously observant. They knew the hymns, the men wore kippot, one even had payot. The hosts insisted that my friend recite the various blessings. Through a chance comment during dinner, he discovered he was the only Jew in attendance. They were Germans who enjoyed enacting Jewish rituals, and wanted a Jew to unwittingly give his blessing.

Reminds me of americans (warren-snake) insisting they are 1/24th cherokee.

"order must prevail" and "dissent must not lead to disorder" are the kind of comically fascist lines you would expect to find coming from the over the top bad guy in a YA novel

zionists threw a backpack filled with mice at the UCLA encampment last night. people say they have marks on their backs indicating they were injected with something. unclear what they were injected with, if anything, but even if they weren't it seems like a clear threat of bioterrorism against the protesters. if someone did this at a pro-israel rally or something the msm would talk about it nonstop for weeks and would bring it up as an example of "terrorism on the left" for years afterwards

it's kind of funny that they gave Mayor Pete the transportation secretary job just in time for all of our transportation infrastructure to turn to dust. boeing, railroad union strikebreaking, train derailments, bridges collapsing, selfdriving vehicles being allowed to run down people in the street, everybody buying trucks the size of elephants. they could've given him veterans affairs or something and not only would it have been more fitting it also would've been a much quieter post but now if he tries to run for president again he'll have so much shit to answer to. not a guarantee that it'll sink him or anything but it will be a lot tougher than it could've been
