It's an automatic 30 days suspension and 14 day impound. They can (and almost certainly will) extend those. We'll have to see where the trial goes, but in previous cases they've lost their cars.

You seem to be unaware of induced demand...

you attacked a person for being a bad example because they are struggling and not at rock bottom because people exist at the bottom.

That's not my intentions. I question her choices, but that doesn't mean she has an option that would 100% fix her situation. It would probably be hard to find a 2-bedroom for $1500/mo and she'd still have over 50% of her paycheque going to housing.

My concern is articles highlighting cases like this allow people to disregard the housing crisis as just people unwilling to tighten their belts. Like "stop eating avocado toast" or "cancel Disney+", there's no quick fix.

Same reason the headlines aren't listing Hamas leader: the international public doesn't know who they are. Netanyahu, on the other hand, has been on the international stage since the '90s.

The open-source licenses that I’ve used don’t require surrendering copyright.

The creator doesn't "surrender" their copyright, but someone can fork it and then have ownership of their version. "Winamp will remain the owner of the software" indicates you won't have ownership of a fork.

Again, it doesn't clearly state whether it will be "FOSS" or "Source Available", but if they were planning to go FOSS, you'd expect them to say something to make that clear. Leaving it vague seems like a strategy to get attention while not actually lying.

Up until 3 years ago, I lived in KW. I agree this is insane and completely avoid biking on these lanes. However, whenever this picture pops up on social media, I always question what would have been a better option?

  • Should they just not have put in bike lanes? They are useful on either side of the overpass.
  • Should the bike lanes be centre running? They could run beside the LRT, but I know centre running bike lanes present a bunch of new problems.
  • Something else?

Here's the location on Google Maps, if anyone wants to poke around.

I would love to see dedicated bike infrastructure to cross the expressway, but I don't see that happening in the short/medium-term. There aren't any other nearby crossing, though the next one south of here is okay~ish.

Maybe this is being too cold-hearted, but we tend to choose pets that live a fraction of a human's life. There are many animals which could make good pets except they live as long as humans (if not a lot longer).

I think what this article was something like,

The biggest tragedy of pet ownership is that sometimes those pets die far too soon due to illness.

Therefore his death was PAINLESS.

Except for the 22 minutes of struggling to breath. Unless you're discounting those by saying he was unconscious the moments before his death. If that's the case, most forms of what we consider painful death are after at least a few moments of unconsciousness.

The US already has that law on the books, it's just not enforced.

At least in North America I think they were the only brand selling passenger vehicles diesel engines.

It's not really an apple-to-apples comparison. These are taxis, so they should only be compared to professional taxi drivers. Then, unless you're comparing per ride statistics, you have to factor in the fact that drivers typically park in between customers while AVs roam leading to additional traffic and chances for "glitches".

This is before you begin to consider whether AV taxis are a societal benefit in one of the least car-centric places in the country.
