Given how long this has gone on now, it’d probably be best to inform your community that you’ll be removing BLOBs from the source and for them to be produced during build otherwise this shadow is going to remain.

Many of the BLOBs are essential to allow Ventoy to work with Secure Boot. They are compiled and signed by Fedora and OpenSUSE. They definitely need to be better documented, but they aren't reproduceable for good reason.

Great comparison, a dialect used by millions of people to a dead language. It really shows how much you care about the people who speak that dialect...

The point that you kind of touch on in your comment, is that SUV's generally aren't better than a hatchback/wagon. In my experience, most SUV's aren't efficiently using their space, so they feel more luxurious to ride in, but have horrible cargo storage. @notjustbikes@notjustbikes.com talked on his podcast about being picked up (with his wife) from the airport in a huge SUV (I think it was an Escalade) and being unable to get their luggage in the trunk.

Eh, we Canadians officially use L/100km, which just make so much more sense to compare fuel efficiency. MPG can be so misleading.

Agreed. I just see one that's brighter and that makes it hard to not prefer it.

Not the point of this article, but the last sentence stuck out to me:

But new figures released in December 2023 showed that, during Eyre’s tenure, the number of reported sexual assaults doubled in a one-year period.

They phrase that as a bad thing, isn't that a good thing? It probably means Members actually think it's worth reporting.

Totally agree! I've often wondered why New York doesn't do this. Even retro-fitting exists streets wouldn't be that hard. Remove one parking spot and you could put garbage, recycling, and even organic waste there! And while there's capital costs in setting this up, I expect savings would more than make-up for this by having to pickup less often and only ~1 stop a block instead of each individual unit.

Here's a NotJustBikes video about how waste is handled in Amsterdam if anyone's unfamiliar with these underground bins.

I think when most people decry EVs, we're not talking about individual EV owners but the system which forces basically everyone to move around by personal vehicle. Sure, they'll be the occasional person who says, "I bike 28km to and from work at a very physical job where I often work overtime. I have to share the road with traffic. I don't know why everyone can't commute by bike," (this was the gist of a comment I read on reddit years ago). However, most people understand that changes can't just be personal responsibility.

With the information we have about your life, it sounds like you made a reasonable decision. If you can continue to be mindful about the decisions you make and advocate for a better world when you can, I think you're doing a great job!

the cost of rent is directly tied to the mortgage rate

Who told you that?

I'm pretty sure it's been months since that was an issue on Jerboa. I wouldn't say Jerboa is rock solid, but it's my app of choice. However, as a longtime Sync for Reddit user, I'm happy to see Sync gaining traction. The more the merrier!

In a lot of these WFH communities, the rental market softened with the rest of the housing market, so you might not have renters or have to take a hit on the rent. Also, being a landlord more than a commute-able distance away from your property sounds like asking for trouble, unless you hire a property manager, but that's another hit to your income.
