In addition to what @Openopenopenopen@lemmy.world said, if you look at the fleurs-de-lis wikipedia article, there's a whole section titled "Religion and art".

There is an argument that, "The Fleurdelisé is more cultural than religious," but separating those two is extremely difficult. IMHO, it's pretty ethnocentric to think symbols like that have become so ingrained in our culture that they are no longer religious, while assuming symbols like hijab are purely religious.

Daylighting is defined the first time it's used. I think it's useful to define and use a term when you're going to use it 6 more times in one article.

Hoboken’s traffic fatalities were low before it ever implemented Vision Zero — it had one road death a year between 2015 and 2017, the last year there was a road fatality.

this is a notebook with an Intel Core i5-4278U @ 2.60GHz (2 cores, 4 threads) with 8 GB RAM and installing and upgrading on xubuntu 23.10 was already really, painfully slow.

Have you put an SSD in there, or are you still running on spinning rust? In my experience, even a cheap SSD will make a huge difference.

That's a quote from Malaysia's commodities minister, so I don't know if you can trust it. The article also says

The Asian nation is the world's second-largest producer of the widely used commodity, whose production is blamed by environmentalists for fuelling the destruction of the great ape's habitats in both Malaysia and Indonesia.

Can it? Certainly. People have been doing so for years now.

Should you? None of us can answer that for you. None of us know your needs, your technical proficiency, or your willingness to put up with bugs/quirks

If you're interested, you should go read/listen/watch the experiences of users and ask questions once you have some specific ones.

GPS isn't quite accurate/reliable enough. I know there are issues with shared scooters/bikes that are speed limited by GPS (I specifically heard this complaint about Neuron's scooters and bikes in Waterloo, Ontario).

I'd much prefer we design the roads to limit speeds.

There will be so much bureaucratic red tape between the feds and the municipalities

Not sure what municipalities have to do with this? Rail is exclusively in the federal jurisdiction.

You also seem to be referring to HFR, which is unrelated to this topic (though it's mentioned as background on Via Rail).

PEDs tend have a lot of unintended mental and physical side effects. That adds a lot of uncertainty which I'm sure the Navy would rather avoid. Plus, as you kind of pointed out, taking these drugs is not safe and introduced health risks.

The G20 focuses on the global economy, while the UN focus on peace. This sometimes overlaps (for example, they both discuss climate change), but they're different enough to be unique.

This was mentioned a couple of weeks ago on the Vergecast. I was wondering if someone was going to get assigned the article, and here it is!
