Pretty much all public works projects go over budget. Pretty much all private private projects also go over budget. However, people only complain about public transit projects going over budget. There are some legitimate reasons for this, like lack of institutional knowledge, but I think people hyper-fixate on public transit while roads "just have to be built, whatever the cost."

In addition to what other people have said about gdebi, I'm surprised it's not there by default in Pop. I thought it was there in pretty much all Ubuntu-based distros (except where alternatives are used).

I totally get not wanting to use the terminal for this purpose. It's pretty rare that I download and install a .deb, but when I do, it's nice to just click it straight from the browser and not have to navigate to my download folder in the terminal. And given how rarely I download and install .deb files, I have to look up the command every time.

If we ever get a progressive president maybe we'll actually fix it.

I'm not sure a president could make the necessary changes on their own. I think you'd also need a progressive congress.

You can't make this argument while also stating in other comments that a truck is too expensive.

Eh, depends how much older. My daily is a Thinkpad x201, and while I love Linux Mint, every once in a while I get curious about other distros. However, as many times as I've tried, there's a bunch of distros whose LiveUSBs just won't boot (for example Pop! OS).

Leaving a two-year-old alone in a car for 30-60 minutes (he doesn’t even know how long he was gone) isn’t criminal in and of itself regardless of the weather.

... ummmm, yes it is. Leaving a toddler unattended for an extended period of time is literally multiple crimes.

They're discontinuing it in 2026.

But they what? With few new small cars being built, the supply is dwindling, even in the used market.

It's literally in the article:

...the U.S. announced on May 28 that it had suspended operations so repairs could be made.

The United Nations said on Friday it had still not resumed transportation of aid from the pier to U.N. World Food Programme warehouses.

To each their own, but I prefer wired earbuds run under my shirt, especially at the gym. Then if I need to take one out or they fall out, they're tethered to me.
