In Mexico I found out that, when you're expected to be somewhere at the actual time written on the appointment, it's called English time. Was a surprise to me (am English) because I thought that was German time.

There is (as far as I know) no easy way to copy a user handle to mention them in a post or comment. There isn't a UI element or menu option on a post to do this. I can go to their just page and use the share button, but then I get (for example):

https://lemmy.guide/link?target=@zachatrocity@sh.itjust.works

That's not Zach's instance, it's mine. To get the user handle I'd have to edit out the URL part, and change to the correct instance @zachatrocity@lemmy.world.

Is that how it's supposed to work? Is the instance change thing a bug? Is there a better way I don't know about?

The proposal [prohibits] the use, sale, import and export of food and feed "from cell cultures or tissue derived from vertebrate animals".

Am I missing something, is it a translation issue, or did they just ban meat?

Down to prohibition. For a time you couldn't legally sell alcohol so apple juice was sold under the name cider. Sometimes with handy instructions on how not to store it to avoid it fermenting into alcohol. Then, by the time restrictions were lifted, cider just meant apple juice as far as America was concerned.

(Allegedly)

Look at this post https://sh.itjust.works/post/5863836

It's just a regular image post, hosted on the instance server, but it displays as an external link, & you have to click through to view it.

Earlier, similarly formatted posts to the same community display as normal image posts.

The only difference is that the newer posts include an additional ?format=jpg parameter. I'm guessing this is throwing off the detection of an image post.

Oh for goodness sake. 400MJ in for 3.15MJ out is not a net energy gain. I wish just once they'd be honest about what they do, it's ok to do basic physics research without pretending you've saved the world every six months.

As title. There's an option in the settings menu to disable animations. However GIF image posts animate in thumbnail view regardless.

The user @Angled@lemmy.world has been banned, and their absurd list of communities are (I think?) removed, but you would not know that looking at their user page.

This maybe because they were a lemmy.world user, and I'm viewing from a sh.itjust.works account. I'm not altogether clear to what extent this is a app issue/instance issue/this particular account issue.

  • on liftoff, I see a long list of modded communities with various names
  • on the lemmy.world web interface, I see a note that the user is banned, and most (but not all) of their communities are listed as 'serverhold'
  • on the sh.itjust.works web interface, there's no note that the user is banned, but also no modded communities
