*taking the piss

Didn't Steam give out stickers (or some other small reward) for submitting nominations, and allow people to nominate games they had never played? I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the Starfield nominations were blind and/or shill votes.

Did your wife go on social media to pick a fight by stereotyping and publicly scolding a large community of people, and justify it with an obviously false claim? I hope not, but if so, then I wish you the best of luck working through that together.

You should just learn Chinese.

That's disingenuous. I wasn't complaining about English not serving me well, now was I?

Also, once again, mountains vs. molehills.

The difference here is mountains vs. molehills.

And in most cases, they obviously do have sufficient ability to learn how, because they were able to learn the commercial software they're currently using.

As for time, yes, learning always takes time. (Thus my comparison to learning a new commute.) But suggesting that someone learn something new is not stupid or unreasonable, especially if the thing they currently use is not serving them well.

  • In response to that paragraph you added after I replied:

I don't know why you would think that cherry-picked and extremely specific scenario is somehow representative of the general subject we're discussing. Of course situations exist where learning alternative software isn't the best answer. That doesn't make it wrong for people to suggest the alternatives. Quite often, they're perfectly viable, and it's perfectly reasonable to try to help by making someone aware of them.

I thought that until I actually held a sphinx. Turns out the baldness was an illusion. It had short, light fur, and was incredibly soft.

I remember a few dialogue options that had me thinking, "why did they bother putting that option in the game? Nobody would ever choose that!"

Apparently I misjudged.

This means something that has been true since before OS X was invented (circa 1990-ish) that hasn’t changed.

No, it doesn't. Linux was always behind OSX on this survey. It only changed very recently, and because these survey results fluctuate from month to month, it wasn't clear that it would remain this way.

Here's the original article:

Sounds like Nintendo wants to go on a litigation spree.

A related patent defines a mechanic that prevents Link from grabbing an object he is on top of using Ultrahand, which also seems rather intuitive. The patent does, however, go into details such as the mechanic also blocking Link from using Ultrahand on objects which have been joined to an object he is on top of.

The word "obvious" comes to mind.

“a game processing method capable of enriching game presentation during a waiting period in which at least part of the game processing is interrupted” and consists of filling up the loading period that ensues after the user inputs their fast travel destination with a sequence in which an image of the starting point’s map transitions into a map of the destination. After this sequence, the character is placed into the virtual space of the destination.

So, that thing films have been doing for decades?

I hope the patent examiners have some sense in their heads when considering these.

The engineering foresight that went into it is impressive. I wish we saw more of that in the world.

I decided to be the change I want to see, so I got my gaming group a Mumbe server for audio chat. I self-host, but commercial ones are dirt cheap. Sound quality is better than Discord. We use Matrix for text, pictures, etc.

it’s expected that the flagship RX 8900 XT

So just after changing nomenclature from "XT" to "XTX" this generation, they're planning to revert it next generation? It's almost as though they're trying to confuse people.

No proprietary software. Open source only. (Partial exception for certain games, in a virtual machine, after I review their privacy policies.)

No retail rewards memberships.

No Google anything.

No Meta anything. (Facebook/WhatsApp/Instagram/etc.)

No phone number given to web sites or (most) businesses. VoIP number for the handful that might legitimately need to call me.

Unique email addresses for each web account and service provider. When one gets leaked or spammed, I know who did it and I cut them off.

VPN when I feel it's appropriate.
