How long does this take? I'm 40 and still see the D's do much better in this regard in general. The first example that comes to mind is the Dodd-Frank act that Obama signed that added loads of consumer protections against predatory bank practices. I worked at a bank at the time and this was life changing for a lot of ~~victims~~ customers that were bad with money.

I dual boot, but I've been dreading booting back into Windows recently because I upgraded my motherboard/CPU and know they are going to make me buy another license. And I understand Windows is more convenient for a lot of people but I am not one of them.

I can't think of anything that is more convenient for me on Windows other than that I have to use it to run Studio One to record music from time to time. But "software availability" has nothing to do with the operating system itself; market position does. And a company's market position rarely drives my purchasing decisions.

I dislike Windows for all the reasons people here typically state.

Things like this always make me think, ok, there are some hoodlums disturbing the peace and they are trying to crack down. But wait, isn't whatever crime they are committing already illegal? We already have laws in place so why bring e-bikes into this?

When choosing your first distro it's probably best to go with one that is very popular - Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, Mint, etc. Niche distros are a surefire path to immediate troubleshooting.

From there, decide what desktop environment you want. Most distros offer releases with various environments (KDE, Gnome).

There are differences with package managers... who cares, you either run this command or that one to update.

I second using a Live USB to run any distro release first so you can test drive it. If you use Ventoy on your USB drive you can put multiple distro ISOs on it instead of having to flash only one at a time.

You still wipe, just once or twice instead of 14 or 15 times.
