I'm going to say the same thing that I said about the Polish incident. That incident only happened because Russia chose to attack Ukraine in an area directly bordering on another country. Izmail is also right across the border. I'll wait on more dependable sources for an investigation, and I'm certainly not agitating for an escalation on NATO's side. At the same time, if Russia's bombing campaign ultimately results in foreseeable casualties outside of the country, I put the blame on Russia. Ukraine has the right to defend itself.

Replace the Pop! Shop with the COSMIC Store.

sudo apt install cosmic-store cosmic-icons
sudo apt remove pop-shop

Pop Shop is kinda slow. COSMIC Store is part of Pop OS's new COSMIC Desktop Environment (DE). Everything is just a lot faster. It's an alpha so there are a couple of rough edges, but it's great overall.

Speaking of, get hyped for COSMIC. It's a DE written in Rust. It's not quite as complete as GNOME, but hopefully it will have better performance than the current GNOME mod that forms Pop's UI.

I can, but the history is a little gorey.

Sometimes I've seen it used legitimately when a service gets noticeably slower or more confusing over time as misfeatures keep getting added on. At the same time, I often see it just get applied when people don't like change. It just the latest in a long string of phrases or words that mean "you made a change I don't like."

I'm pretty sure their founding documents include "shafting workers and consumers" as a core mission.

We just had a downpour (COVID-19) and many of them were trying to blame it on umbrellas.

The scene can only be described as an echo of the KKK, lynching, and other racial violence. Two black men were brutally tortured by six cops simply because they were staying with a white woman. The crooks are behind bars, but now it's time for some restitution.

My home state of Oregon mandates a minimum wage of $13.20 in rural areas and $15.45 in the Portland metro area, and it adjusts to inflation.

I was part of that! I was on a team that made a web site that visualized the effect on poverty levels on a county-by-county basis when the minimum wage was at different levels. It made the need for a split minimum wage obvious, since the minimum wage that is necessary for metro areas is inappropriate for rural areas. Rumor has it that the legislature used it in the decision making to some degree.

Be highly unified, which eases software distribution. With Windows, the system software at least is from a single vendor. You'll have differences in hardware and in versions of Windows, sure. But then compare that to Linux, where Wikipedia estimates a thousand different distros. Granted, a lot of those are member of families like Red Hat or Debian that can be supported relatively easily. However, others use more exotic setups like Alpine, NixOS, or Gentoo. Projects like Flatpak are working on distribution mechanisms, but they have their own issues. And even if you get it running, that doesn't mean it integrates well into the desktop itself. Wayland should improve that situation, though.

I had a mattress that I had directly on a cement floor in a basement. That was an expensive mistake. The mattress retained moisture because it couldn't breath, contributing to it collapsing. A basic bed frame is cheap, makes the room look nicer, and provides extra storage space underneath.

I've been having some fun with my current setup. I have a bed, nightstand, desk, dresser, and closet in one room. It's maybe a little cozy, but functional as long as I put some thought into it. I even have a nice space in the middle that I can pretend I use to work out in.

It's a combination of economy of scale and flexibility around time. The USPS sorts massive volumes of mail and packages, then delivers by the truck load. With food delivery, you get a piping hot meal delivered by a dedicated driver. That said, still overpriced by the companies.

Just from an economic standpoint, it's such a terrible decision. The Twitter bird is iconic to the point where the trademark itself is worth a considerable amount. This is like Disney dumping Mickey Mouse for a side character in The Dark Cauldron.
