Recently upgraded a laptop that had been on the shelf for 5 years up to latest version. Flawless one-step upgrade! nixos. Things never get in a tangle where installing and uninstalling packages leaves random artifacts behind. If you saved it to version control, you can return to a past system configuration and the only thing different is your home directory data.

And yes, if you have a home partition and root partition, that's exactly what you can do. That's the beauty of that approach. But back it up!

pricing is in line with the top ipad. I consider it kind of an activist move to buy one of these though, more about supporting a cause than getting a device with maximal functionality.

pretty sweet. wonder what the price will be.

For me, yes. My ears ring all the time due to listening to loud things in my youth. I don't want that getting any worse. You can't buy new ears.

I had a pair of 30$ musicians earplugs, but they really changed what I could hear. At concerts I couldn't understand the lyrics; basically they changed the audible frequencies too much.

Got 200$ moldeds made and I don't feel like I'm missing out when I wear them, at least not much. I can understand lyrics better now. They aren't completely neutral, but close enough. I keep them in a pill bottle attached to my keyring so I always have them at a show or the movies, or wherever else reckless people are in charge of amplification.

I do think its an odd situation where you go to a show and the volume is crushingly loud, and everyone in the audience is wearing earplugs. At least the music doesn't get overwhelmed by people yelling out drink orders at the bar. Alternative: silent disco style, with wireless headphones.

Ah, the "play store". Happy playground of spending! Starting off on the wrong foot with just the name. Of course its a trashed up ad spew bucket and dark pattern shitehole.

I don't really know what the state of the art in 3D scanners is, but my guess is you'd get a cleaner STL file (less complex, less weird artifacts of scanning) from making the design yourself in a CAD program.

Lately I've been more conscious of my decisions to watch trash on you tube. You watch a few traffic cam videos and pretty soon that's half your feed. So I'm finding myself thinking twice before clicking.

Shorts I mostly avoid because I feel that feature is toxic clickbait.

I use nextcloud, thunderbird, and on android caldav-sync and simple calendar pro.

Its all fine for personal use, but nextcloud with a team is not great. Want to have an event and invite the whole team? Add then one by one. Want to see how many people are coming to the event? I guess ask them?
