Just to suck the life out of this (yet another) hilarious vignette, did you know, according to the data gathered by defenders.org, in the United States more people are killed by cows than wolves?! The UK-based theconversation.com has a webpage advising how to stay safe around a killer herd!

Does anyone speak hairdresser?

No. Not even hairdressers speak hairdresserese. Like drummers, hairdressers/stylists/barbers will all appear as if all their attention is 100% on your description but they are thinking about something within their social circle (hence the real concern on their face). Like drummers, if there isn't some kind of natural affinity between you and who cuts your hair, you will never get what you're looking for.

That said, many clients haven't the proverbial "faintest idea" of what actually works for their face shape and stylists, if they're not suffering too strong of a hangover 🤣, do try to work within those confines.

You can only go in with your remarkably clear and detailed description —still open to interpretation as your hairstyle is not an airplane fuselage, with precise measurements and tolerances—in hand and still hope for the best. Apologies for the length of this reply.

DISCLAIMER: my ex-wife was and still is a fine hair stylist.

Why does Zack Snyder hate us? What did we ever do to him?

Go figure. Three of them are Trump-appointed shills, two are ~~Cheney's~~ Dubya's and Thomas hanging on from "Vision Thing" Bush times.

We see posts everyday, some (most) with a square-cropped image to the left. Some of these post images, let's call them "post icons", are there because on the "Create Post" form there is a text entry field explicitly pointing to the author's uploaded image. Otherwise, the post icon is an image from the link entered in the URL text entry field.

Are you with me so far? I hope so.

Now, sometimes the URL returns an image and sometimes it doesn't. If it doesn't, a default Lemmy link icon appears.

Here's an example. The linked page has an image but it doesn't appear as a post icon.

  1. How can I get the URL to return an image I know is on the linked page. Not necessarily a specific image but any image from the link.
  2. Is there a way to use an author-chosen image when no linked image exists (or if I'd like a different image)? I've tried using both the URL and the Image fields but unfortunately the Image link takes preference.

I hope I've been clear. Please don't hesitate to ask questions. Thanks!

EDIT: added the post icon image.

She wasn't the only ignored sibling in the revolutionary socialist's family. There was also the pioneer sports car driver, Sckid.

Not to mention the pharmaceuticals researcher, Tchrak.

OK, I'll bite. You got something more substantial than "I read it on the internet" to back that up? One reputable source on your accusation? Not sayin' you're lying/wrong, just asking for some verifiable proof.

Saudi Arabia publicly claims to support the Paris climate change agreement, which aims to limit global temperature increases to 1.5C or 2C – requiring an almost total transformation of the way in which the world produces and consumes energy. The Crown Prince [Mohammed bin Salman], also known as MBS, has said that the Kingdom needs to go “further and faster” in tackling climate change.

The Oil Demand Sustainability Program (OSP) is a vast government program with dozens of projects aimed at embedding a high-carbon, fossil fuel-dependent development model in countries across Africa and Asia. This includes meticulously researched plans to drive a major increase in gasoline and diesel-fuelled vehicles and boost jet fuel sales via increased air travel.

Responding to the investigation, Mohamed Adow, director of Power Shift Africa, a non-governmental organisation based in Nairobi focused on climate change, told CCR: “The Saudi government is like a drug dealer trying to get Africa hooked on its harmful product. The rest of the world is cleaning up its act and weaning itself off dirty and polluting fossil fuels and Saudi Arabia is getting desperate for more customers and is turning its sights on Africa.”

It happens in post titles in lemmy desktop. lemmy apps vary on correct rendering of certain glyphs/entities. Even bold and italic markdown is rendered literally, that is, incorrectly.

In any case, it's still a bug.

As I'd just written in another reply here, there is a world of difference in describing an illustration and creating an illustration.

You mean like Trump and Twitter?

Why must you politicize/weaponize the Fediverse?

Whenever I click a link, any link, on lemmy.ml, the UI always renders in Chinese and a half second later renders in English.

Here's the finished page render.

Other examples: before and after.

What gives? Thanks.
