Not all crypto is Bitcoin, and not all blockchains are based on Proof of Work. Ethereum's Proof of Stake consumes less electricity than all the power used by PlayStation consoles at idle.
This would be amazing to be integrated with Voyager. People could migrate to Reddit via Fediverser and clone only their subreddits to the device.
What I am thinking as a possible solution would be to have some type of "community server", akin to email list servers. The admin of the server becomes a "mere" service provider, and those that create communities are then responsible for moderation and that content being hosted there.
I believe that this would be perfectly possible to implement with Lemmy, so much so that I will add some of this functionality to Fediverser as part of my NLNet grant. The question is: who else would be interested in hosting these fediverser-enabled instances?
I am not sure I'd be using any mass communication platform that is primarily developed and/or funded by any government.
But anyway, I really don't like to use hypotheticals as an excuse to not take action. Yes, it would be better if there was more public support for open source. But it doesn't. Should we just shrug our shoulders and do nothing on our own? Why give away our agency?
Nah, I feel cheated by Fairphone. With the whole FP3 and FP3+, they were leading with the idea that they have settled on the form factor, and then just evolve the separate mainboard/camera/display modules independently. With the FP4, they scraped all that and just chased whatever was trendy at the time and cranked the "but the environment" marketing.
I paid the Fairphone premium knowing that the specs were crap, but that at least in the future I wouldn't need to upgrade by buying a whole phone. Promising to have software upgrades for 8 years is nice, but it's worthless if you can not upgrade any of the hardware in the meantime.
For now I will just go buy a "budget premium" Android and pray that the people from frame.work decide to extend into phones as well in the next 2-3 years.

I wanted to give a shoutout to @maajmaaj@lemmy.world for encouraging me to share but for some reason lemmy.world is not giving me the proper links to the discussions... 
So, I really don't want to say "crypto solves this", but name identities and ownership over domains is actually one of the valid use cases for NFTs.
That's the spirit. We don't need to complete obliterate reddit to make it the better alternatives viable. We just need to get a minimal mass of people here to keep momentum growing.
I keep thinking of Taleb's essay where he talks about how effective a intolerant minority can be on affecting change in general behavior.

Discouraged, but still supported. There is also another FEP (forgot the code now) being worked on and implemented by Mitra.
The point is that it is possible for an instance to federate an activity which is not originated by them.
