Dear god, don't use free VPNs. If they're not charging you,.they're making money somehow, generally by selling your personal data.

If you don't like a post, ignore it. If you feel like the community is missing a conversation, start it. Winging about what other people want to talk about is pointless.

I feel weird recommending this movie because I fully acknowledge it's not exactly good, but...

The Man Who Knew Too Little (1997)

This has long been one of my all time favorite comedies. I've seen it probably a half dozen times, and it still makes me laugh out loud. Bill Murray is brilliant and Alfred Molina is clearly having the time of his life. I absolutely love it.

I have nothing against Budgie, I just haven't used it. It looks pretty nice, though 😀

I haven't tried Trinity, mostly because KDE 3 was a bad experience for me. It's certainly an interesting project, though.

Windows was never as zippy and stable as XFCE. And I hate to be a know-it-all, but XFCE is a Desktop Environment, not a Distro.

MySpace was a big thing while I was in College, which I didn't start until I was 30 (well, 29). I couldn't figure out what the big deal was. You got a hideous web page, whoopdie-doo.

None of the "big" social media has ever much appealed to me. I was on Facebook for a while, and I'll admit it was kinda nice to see how people I went to high school with were doing, but I just never cared that much.

I'm kinda stuck with it because of a group chat my friends have, otherwise I'd never bother.

Hey, I've seen the "batteries included" thing several times related to ublue, but I don't understand what it means here. Could you explain?

I know what the idiom generally means - everything you need to get started - and even the origin of the expression. I just don't know what the metaphorical "batteries" are here.

I use two windows side by side. To be honest, I've never really gotten into tabs in a file manager, and split view isn't much better. Neither one is as easy for me as just ctrl-n into a new window.

Everyone is different. It takes all kinds to make the world go 'round, as the saying goes.

[-] s20@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

Well, you've got me on that one.

I agree with this 100%, every word. Well, almost every word; the expression is "dumbed down" not "dumped down", but other than that, this is basically what I was going to say.

I find that elitist, gatekeepy posts like what OP said are completely unhelpful. They're worse than wrong, because they can't even yield useful discussion, really - just neck beards nodding vigorously and everyone else rolling their eyes.

You want a stable, locked down system? Vanilla OS, Silverblue, Blend, and Aeon will have you covered. You want to tinker? Debian, Fedora, Arch, and OpenSuse are still there. Linux is about choice, and it's just silly to worry that Arch is going to disappear just because Blend (or Garuda, or whatever the hell) exist.

You're thinking of being g post-op. Not all trans people have surgery, and it's not a requirement for being trans.
