I've seen articles of how the car maker will sell this to insurance and if you do anything wrong your rate will go up.

If I ever buy a new car you can bet I'll be doing research on how to rip that shit out. Won't even drive it home from the dealer without getting in there first.

It's all open source now so someone will keep it going, I'm sure.

I've always asked friends and family for help with my résumé but a library or a community centre will definitely be able to either help or point you in the right direction. Worst case you can post again here with the personal information changed or blacked out.

Welcome to Canada! I'm sorry for how things are going there and I hope you enjoy your time here!

Personally, I'd never use one of these scripts.

Most PCs have a windows key burned in to the BIOS.

https://www.howtogeek.com/660517/how-to-find-your-windows-10-product-key-using-the-command-prompt/

I'd start there and see if it can be used for 11 or upgraded through the versions. Then I'd take a "clean" backup and use that to re-install in the future, instead of a new ISO.

Some days I wonder if I should get out of tech altogether. I miss setting things up, getting deep into things I find fun. I feel work takes the fun out of it, honestly.

I'd love to volunteer somewhere that'll make the world better. Homeless shelter, food bank, etc. The problem is, how do I do this AND pay my bills AND have free time to relax?

It's an archived version on the new article (no pay wall)

Oh shit. I haven't checked since like Friday morning. It looks like where I use to live is gone now. Friends are terrified and family are far enough away they're not concerned.... Yet. This looks bad.

If you want something publicly accessible (like google, etc) you will have to open a port on your router and point it to your laptop.

If you want something privately accessible (like your router website) then you do not need to touch your router but both devices (laptop and phone) will need to be on the same private network.

What is not possible is to take your laptop to a hotel somewhere, leave it on while you take your phone out in the city and access your laptop via the public internet. You would need access to the hotel router to allow it. I believe this is what you're trying to do from your post above.

IF you want to do something like what I said. You'll need an overlay network. It's basically a virtual private network you can install on your devices. Personally I love tailscale(with headscale) but there are lots. Then you'll be able to connect to your laptop in a hotel from your phone while you're away.

I would start with a website that says hello world without SSL/HTTPS. Get this accessible from your phone on the same network, then decide what you want to do and take it one step at a time. SSL next? Public access? Tailscale access? The idea would be to do it all but one thing at a time.

Yeah, we're basically on the same page here. Their instance, their rules.

I'm hopeful that in the future, accounts will be "in the fediverse", and end users can choose what they want to see or not see. Then it's on the instance that's hosting the community to determine what's okay to host or not.

NOTHING that a typical home user would buy supports the full 1Gbps. At least, not from my research. This is what's stopping me from 1Gbps internet. My ISP offers up to 8Gbps but my real world FW throughput is about 700Mbps. I'm not dropping thousands on enterprise hardware either. All that's left for me is DIY If I want true 10GbE
