Indeed. Seems like EU is dead set on joining the US economic war on China.

And I say this as someone as far left as left goes.

This is much like beginning a comment with "I'm not racist, but", with the inevitable horrible racism that follows. Your comment is such a gross simplification of history and dismissal of context, that it borders on the malign. For instance the number in your source says 15-55 million, not 55 million. The ideological broadside is very apparent. Facts not feelings, to paraphrase a broken clock.

  1. Yes, China had a terrible famine in the 60s, but far left people tend to consider it in context China's historical famines, as well as the many millions dead to capitalist induced famine.
  2. Leftists tend to consider deaths and consequences of capitalist imperialism when discussing foreign and developing nations.
  3. Today India is listed as a country in "Serious" risk in the Global Hunger Index, while China is of course "Low".

These are just three aspects of context, of many, which you could have chosen to inform your comment. In stead it is perpetuating a US-vs-Them cold war, black and white rhetoric, making the West out to be exceptionally good, while China is entirely bad. Smart people smell the lies included in such oversimplification a long way. You run fast and loose with your facts, presenting allegations of Uyghur genocide as fact, while you probably know how the UN will not call it that, after long running and thorough investigations, a lack of evidence, etc. On the other hand, we in Europe are very much facilitating the ongoing genocide in Palestine, of which there is ample coverage.

Well, yeah, it's complicated and all that, but still. For instance, did you know Huawei is a cooperative? I just learned.

Exactly. I swear, at this point Lemmy.world is just another Reddit propaganda zealot parade. From what was once the leader of the idea of enlightenment, the US now is like an alternate dimension where the average IQ is just 20 points lower. And it shows here, it really does. War is peace and the cold war is back on, yeehaw boys 🎉

A hundred times yes. AP is inseparable from US imperialism. It projects the Pentagon's version of reality to a global audience. Through sheer volume it floods the airwaves to the detriment of other countries' own news agencies, sets the agenda, and is integral to US hegemony, as soft power.

In what way is speaking against ceasefire in an ongoing genocide not a hard-on for genocide-statement?

[-] spacedout@lemmy.ml -3 points 1 year ago

Here you go

"Now is not the time to talk about a ceasefire. We must support Israel in efforts to eliminate the Hamas terrorists who slaughtered innocent men, women, and children."

Impressive scale, with mills the size of Rockefeller center and the farm's extent equal to London. Still only 5 percent of UK's energy consumption when they are operating at max capacity. Two things come to mind:

  • What was the cost in terms of climate gases to build and install these, and what are the plans for their eventual decommissioning?
  • What are the impacts on atmospheric flows, especially if this was scaled up to cover a larger part of UK consumption, and joined by similar installations from other countries?

Well IMHO both USSR and China shows how gaining workers control and keeping it, or moreso making significant headway towards communism, is just much more complicated. Representative worker ownership of the means of production through the state doesn't have a compelling track record. I think it's dishonest, reactionary and anti intellectual to laugh off arguments like that of comrade spood from the screenshot above.

Edit: checked out my claim on calorie intake and discovered it was dubious. Removed, but letting the main argument stay.
