I usually cut down on domain/DNS cost by using a free dynamic DNS service called duckdns. It works super well, provides Let's Encrypt support and sub-sub-domains. (for example your could have https://git.$username.duckdns.org)
I've found as a IT noob that Caddy 2 provides as much "batteries inside" and "boiler-plate free" to support me, because I have no Idea what I'm doing. So I just let caddy handle my encryption and reverse proxy to my actual server.
I'm an embedded software dev, who only discovers ethernet protocols on a surface level, because we hadn't need it yet in previous projects, so I'm a bit lost on how to do cloud stuff. So having all these great tools for free for me to try out and connect from outside to my media servers and stuff is awesome!

I used to do the same, with the exact piece of software, when I was a contractor for a big enterprise that didn't give me sh*t to do.
Even after asking multiple times for some assignments and integrating myself into the daily standups, manager meetings and made myself "part of the team" as much as possible, they didn't use me or my skills.
So naturally I went Eff that and just didn't care anymore. Whenever someone had an assignment for me to do, I'd get the job done in no time and go back to "busy idling"

Actual Good Hardware for a reasonable price. Or gimmick control schemes like the ps vita, Wii (U) or occasionally the Switch. I loved the first "The World Ends With You" on the NDS, tried emulating it, but the control scheme without a touch screen and the physical buttons are so weird, I bought a 3DS to relive that masterpiece since my DS Lite died.
