Turkmenistan should be congratulated for being a sleepy assignment. That's a high achievement these days.

Gotta disagree. MS Paint is so blisteringly straightforward for how to use it. Google pointed me towards Preview but there was no menu option to create a new image from the clipboard contents. And then for editing, there was no easy to use tooltray that gives you everything you need right from the start. You could crop and such by going to through menu but you could feel the app hating you for trying to use it that way.

What's the MacBook equivalent of MS Paint? Open it, paste from clipboard, and then do a simple crop/edit? I was looking to do this the other day and nothing seemed to work.

I don't think Macs are as batteries included as some people think.

A beautiful strawman. This is about driving and traffic enforcement by the government, not creepy campus stalking by a crazy person.

There is no conceivable reality where the government will publicly post your movements for everyone to see based this system. None.

Modernized privacy law alone wouldn't be enough. The danger from social media apps (not just TikTok) is algorithmically swaying public opinion. It's an ultra-refined form of propaganda.

Taking the GDPR as an example, a modern and widely recognized privacy law, there is virtually no protection from manipulation of your news feed. GDPR is primarily worried about gathering and resale of personal information to data brokers. Within a service, it's virtually guaranteed to obtain consent from people to gain full access to the site.

We put import restrictions on groups of things. We ban cheese from France. We don't ban cheese specifically from Jacques Cheese Emporium in Lyon but all other French cheese is okay.

I'd call it a strawman but it's so weak, I don't think there's even any straw.

No, those were not radical extremist positions. Anti-Nazi was the default position, it did not start small and grow. For Abolition, that depends on what region you're referring to but in the US, it was not a radical position. Even prominent slaveholders admitted slavery was bad although it didn't change their behavior.

I only have the unfortunate experience of encountering MAGA types who revel in using the term as a pejorative. Regardless, hurling personal attacks is unpleasant no matter who's doing it.

It's about as equally arbitrary as describing Celsius in terms of 101325 Pa ("standard pressure" boiling point).

Americans are more used to switching units and scales as they relate to the topic at hand. Describing distance between cities in inches is dumb. Using Celsius for the weather is equally unwieldy as the units are not fine grained and despite the headline, we're not even halfway to the boiling point of water on the Celsius scale. And likewise, if you live in a cold climate, even 0C isn't super relevant as a floor. Things don't even get uncomfortable until -10C anyway.

Speaking of Pascals, I feel "conversational" in Celsius and it kinda works but Pascals are even more irrelevant to daily tasks. Things don't even get interesting until you get to 200 kPa and jumps of less than 100kPa aren't very noteworthy. It's like currency after massive inflation.

Yeah. I can put a 3.5 -> C adapter on my headphones but there's no such thing as the reverse. And given that one-way path, it'd be nice if I didn't a dongle everywhere.

It's mindblowing how smooth (and fast!) suspend/resume is on the Steam Deck.
