It all starts with defining what morality means. The way I would define morality is behaviors that maximize flourishing for sentient creatures and minimize suffering. While it is clearly difficult to quantify flourishing and suffering, there are behaviors that clearly cause suffering in this world and impede the opportunity for flourishing and, by the above definition of morality, are plainly immoral. The way I see it, rejecting the possibility that flourishing and suffering can be quantified at all is the only argument that can be made against moral absolutism. Everything else is just quibbling over relevant variables across the spectrum of available behaviors to determine what makes them more or less moral. There is always a behavior that is objectively the more moral choice, but it might be difficult in practice to determine which is the more moral choice due to a lack of available relevant data. The absence of said data shouldn't be assumed to be because it doesn't/can't exist, but rather that it hasn't been collected. Rejecting the idea that there is always a more moral behavior amongst several choices is the dangerous assumption, imo.
I don't know if that's as big a problem as you think. Assuming they have not previously allowed special characters at the beginning of Twitter handles (I don't know whether they had the foresight to do this), they could use a character that was disallowed previously and is a legal character in URLs and then include that special character in the URL path so that it would be twitter.com/~user/ or whatever. This would only be applicable to new official accounts and would not break URLs for existing users.
I don't really know the best way to deal with that on the server API side, but I don't think it's to return them all as separate posts in the main feed. This is a problem that could clearly get much worse before it gets better because it could make the All/New feed really painful to read.
No worries! The Fediverse is a different world with unfamiliar terminology and we've all been there.
The server you sign up with doesn't matter all that much. Just pick one of the reputable ones and follow the rules. You can generally join rooms on any server.
There are a lot of Matrix clients to choose from; they're not all electron web apps and there's even a terminal app available. There could easily be a Matrix client that behaves the way you want, but I couldn't tell you if one exists. You'd have to try a few and see if they have settings that work well for you.
I guess I'm a little curious about why you wouldn't want persistent chat history. Major IRC networks log all chats anyway, so it's only you who's missing out on having that chat history available if you are ever offline.
They certainly can and will live for a while, but the IRC side is missing out on useful features and I honestly find rooms that are bridged to IRC a little annoying in Matrix because IRC folks generate a lot of join/leave events.
I'm not sure where this text is that you're referring to.
would have to really scramble to stay in the red in the future
Did you mean stay in the black?

They take a fair amount of getting used to, especially if you get an ortholinear variety. You might find yourself not really enjoying it out the gate, but it'll force you into better typing posture and you'll grow to love it over time and hate the times you have to type on a standard keyboard. I have an Ergodox and the ortholinear aspect took a while to get used to and settling into a function keys layout I liked took another good while. Expect to be worse at typing and less productive at the outset. Your hands and wrists will thank you in the long run, though.
I agree, any loss of votes in a swing state could theoretically be significant.
