Yeah, it's a marketing thing, with some tax loophole type stuff. Charters were pushed by people looking to privatize and destroy public education. Mostly conservatives and neoliberals.

Is this the United States of Israel? It's amazing how far and wide you can get blacklisted for wanting to draw attention to a human catastrophe unfolding before the world's eyes.

I read an actress named Melissa Barrera was fired from the Scream 7 movie for her posts on the conflict.

As long as you never show support or sympathy to the P-word, you won't get called out or fired or blacklisted.

Never underestimate the blood thirst and deeply racist views of people who rationalize the mass slaughter of women and children, of ethnic cleansing. The world is seeing it more clearly now. Israel has had an incredibly successful run of dehumanization propaganda going back decades, until now.

Retailers jacked up prices and squeezed consumers. They might have just blinked I hope consumers still don't bat many eyelashes because capitalism best practices def looked to squeeze consumers. Record profits, stock markets riding high, rich got even richer, meanwhile ever more people struggle up and down 'main street'.

Columbia University’s Shafik, the Neoliberal https://www.salon.com/2024/04/28/columbia-crisis-another-massive-failure-of-liberalism/

“If you wanted to choose one individual as the face of “neoliberalism” for an encyclopedia entry, you could do a lot worse. Shafik holds an economics PhD from Oxford and a résumé of high-ranking positions at the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the Bank of England, three institutions that have been instrumental in driving developing nations into unsustainable debt in pursuit of a disastrously failed model of progress. She came to Columbia after six years of pushing fiscal austerity as director of the London School of Economics, where just last spring she helped defeat a student/faculty strike, reportedly by slashing salary payments and lowering graduation requirements to hustle student protesters out the door.”

Angry and lashing out. This time the Israeli genocide was called out and the world was made more aware. And the usual cover given challenged thanks to these protests. The dehumanization of Palestinian people by supporters of Israel's genocide is frightening.

Just noting that Microsoft acquired Github back in 2018.

FTC working for the people, rather than using their position to audition for lucrative future private gigs. Rock on.

India has been taken over by backwards-ass right wing religious fundamentalists.

India "became the world leader in internet blackouts", straight up government control. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/sep/25/a-tool-of-political-control-how-india-became-the-world-leader-in-internet-blackouts?

Horrific violence covered up in Manipur on the minority christian community. The country is sliding into some barbaric behavior. https://www.wired.com/story/internet-shutdown-manipur-burning-in-the-dark/

Since May 4, the Indian government has shut off the internet in Manipur, giving cover to murders, rapes, and arson.

Madras High Court Judge N. Anand Venkatesh also noted that it was “done in privacy without affecting or influencing anyone else.”

ummm, how about the child sexual abuse victim? bad enough the misogyny and oppression of women's rights that comes with right wing religion everywhere, RSS/BJP certainly playing their part. the child dude, think of the child.

Greed is now baked into capitalism. Morals and ethics be damned, squeeze and squeeze and see what the market and consumer will bear. So what if much of the population is struggling economically, and more have been thrown into outright poverty. And that record number of people are homeless and sleeping rough.

Consolidation and deregulation always benefits the few over the many, all the while claiming it will be beneficial to consumers. I'm always amused by the religious folks who defend free market greed as though God is a cruel, exploitive being who's big on dog-eat-dog capitalism.

Margin expansion under the guise/cover of inflation should be criminal.

What I would love to see one day is the margin pocketed for every product sold on display next to the price tag.

Retailers could have chosen to eat these higher costs and weather lower profit margins, but instead, the FTC found that on aggregate retailers passed all higher costs onto consumers and raised prices even more to increase their profit margins, too. This finding isn’t totally new, several economists and researchers (including me) pointed out this trend at the time. https://www.foodandpower.net/latest/ftc-supply-chain-disruption-grocery-food-processing-report-apr-24
