Throwing figures like that seems to be disinformation: https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2021/aug/27/facebook-posts/no-consensus-cost-ending-homelessness-us-or-haltin/

Seems like USA spent $51 billion in 2021 to end homelessness: https://my.neighbor.org/what-is-the-cost-of-homelessness/ -- I guess that's nowhere near enough money thrown at the problem.

Have kids, kill your kids, check out cutlery, kill yourself, kill others, visit toilet. In this order.

Why is it that we have to talk about these things when there's an economic downturn? Even Keynes thought that boom is the time to save money, recession the time to spend it.

I don't remember any government doing cutbacks or delaying spending during an economic boom. It's always so that when money is flowing in, spending is adjusted up. And then when the inevitable recession comes, suddenly we don't have any money and are forced into austerity.

Is this entirely a symptom of democracy? Because saving is not a popular thing to do?

I imagine this continued like an SNL sketch, with the general moving to a salute when Trump moves to a handshake, and then repeat that a few times. End up with a hearty laughter and a french kiss.

I'm here mostly because the implementation is superior. If Reddit was accessible directly from here, it'd be a total win-win imho.

It would also be a lose-lose for them, as it would open up their data to free-of-charge use via API without any benefit for them -- so it's not going to happen.

Fascists very much hearken to the idea of an eternal conflict and a single national leader, while authoritarian leftists, in theory, are seeking an actual end goal of a stable society without a strongman.

The idea of "class struggle" (being an eternal conflict) and proletarian dictatorship (afaik always with a single national leader) sounds pretty fascist based on this definition. Of course intentions matter, but I'd say end results matter a bit more.

Jon Stewart would be a pretty good candidate. I mean, totally horrible as a president in objective terms, but would work as a pretty great counterpoint to Trump.

There's another theory why this is: calling Trump an existential threat is just a dishonest way to try to make people care about voting. They want to win for reasons that have nothing to do with how much in danger democracy is.

And it has always been a job of comedians to stretch the limits of social acceptance. It's not the only way to do comedy, but it's one of them.
