Once, I've had thoughts of doing that. Never actually did, but I was in a bad enough state to want to, just to make a message of how my pain isn't something I can just 'suck up because others have had worse'. Kind of to say that my mental health was deteriorating so much that I would be willing to.

First of all, not all theists, in my experience, believe in the exact same things. Me, I don't think God would punish people for the 'slightest deviation from acceptable behaviour'.

Second of all, don't generalize. I'm aware that there are many self-proclaimed 'Christians' who oppress minorities, but not all. So please, no ad hominem :)

I was 13 when COVID started, and after, I felt the same thing. I felt more mature, got into tech, lost some friends and gained new ones.

I'd say my teenage years were my butterfly years, but really it's different for everyone. Maybe COVID was the common factor that did it, at least for me and perhaps for you too?
