I enjoy playing modded games on PC. My IT competency is all informal and hands on so I apologize if this is a dumb question or it seems like I have no idea what I'm talking about. What I was looking to do without using a 3rd party software was to have a game playing in any type of windowed, borderless windowed, or full screen display window on monitor 1 while also having the ability to navigate an open browser window or even just navigate my desktop on display 2. This is all a very normal set up I know but the brick wall I hit happens because my ability with a keyboard is a huge gaming retardant for me. So what I wanted to try and set up was for the gamepad and gaming window, regardless of what display monitor it's being used on, to remain as an "up front" and active process while being able to use my keyboard and mouse as their normal operating devices to navigate my dektop or other active program windows simultaneously.

I have only looked into this briefly because it was very evident after searching the internet that there was not a way to natively set up my PC to allow me to game on one monitor using a gamepad while also having the ability to freely navigating other open windows on monitor 2 using mouse and keyboard with the gaming window remaining active.

I'm playing Witcher 3 currently but earlier this year on the same PC and Windows 11 setup, I swear I was able set up Fallout London by editing the setting.ini file to do exactly what I describred no problem. Admittedly I'm usually as baked as an apple pie when playing with games or modding, but I flipping swear by editing the fallout ini it allowed me to set the the window as always on top and active (meaning it didn't move to the background, or pause, or cut the gamepad off when the mouse was used on other dosplay). It was a series of of like 3 lines of true/false display parameters I entered that allowed me to choose how the program would respond when my input switched from the program window's gamepad to the PC window's mouse/keyboard input.

Fast forward to me trying to get the same setup for a modded Witcher 3 and the results of my searching was that it is universally accepted technical impossibility to use a gamepad exclusively in 1 open window program while also using a mouse to navigate a PC's desktop or other app's open windows simultaneously.

My questions are all to ubderstand why this would be so difficult to implement as a standard option you can set in your OS settings? I'm certainly not qualified to actually be questioning this but in my limited understanding of the devices and platforms in play, this really seems like a very do-able and sought after feature.

Pc's with touch screens are basically doing everything I would like to happen but using touch screen inputs and parameters instead of a gamepad's input. What am i missing in this workflow that is brickwalling this from being an actual feature?:

  1. Creating an OS native setting where the user can choose how the OS handles active and sleeping windows. For example, option A is to keep the default function of determining active windows based on actual cursor location. No clue how it's programed but basically keeping things as they currently are where the hover over an open window without clicking in it but still be able to scroll with mouse wheel. Then option B would allow you disable the function where inactive windows are relegated to only running background processes.

  2. The setting would then require a subsequent setting option to pop up for the user set when the step 1 selection was set to have multiple open windows running simultaneously as seperate active windows. This setting would be for the user to choose between utilizing one input device to control the PC globally as normal or to be able to assigned an installed device to only perform within the limits of an assigned program's window when it is open and active.

Basically I'm picturing this working similar to the way a touchscreen laptop allows you to choose between standard desktop mode and tablet mode. Having the actual keyboard and mouse with global permissions as they always had so they will over ride the controller in its assigned program window for troubleshooting, saftey net in case input device 2 (gamepad or w/e) fails mid use. And the 2ndary input device is only able to operate in the confines of the assigned program window.

It also seems like I have messed around with software or device settings in the past that are already doing this for shit like Android Auto, augmented note pads and their stylus, the already mentioned touch screen displays, and I'm guessing but I wanna say some of the more accommodating accessibility options available for different types of handicapable input devices. I mean shit, don't they have to make all computers capable of being used with only a keyboard or only a mouse option already?

I'm fully expecting the answer to be that Windows and Microsoft are too far in the mindset of fuck what users want to include a feature that will require any added operating/programming costs. But like I started, I know that I don't know enough to know if there are major obstacles engineering this to work.

Normally when you need to wait at a crossing because it's red you take out your phone to waste some time. But you have to be quite anxious and look up if it's already green or not, otherwise you miss the green light.

But they help you out with that here in Korea by building in the traffic light into the curb. You're looking down on your phone and see the red line left and right of it. Once it changes to green you immediately are aware of it because it's in your field of view constantly.

Great invention!

I took the background picture just outside and put the stock picture hands with a phone on top of it so you can easier visualize it how it looks like in reality.

Fuck, I forgot how sad that movie is.

Tap for spoilerIt's crazy to think Anakin could have had everything he ever wanted. He would have been granted the rank of master in due time, he could have lived happily ever after with the woman he loved. But instead he was groomed and manipulated by some creepy old fuck. It's really sad.

Wasn't sure whether to throw this into an ask community or here, but ultimately chose casual convo because I am lowkey also looking for advice lol

I landed a job last week (hired me on the spot, did training 3 days later) as one of those people who stand outside shops/etc. asking people to donate to charities. Reputable charities for the record and without cash donations, so not some scam. But the way this is organised is miserable!! I literally get told where I'm supposed to go the night before I go there. I also get paid exclusively based on how many people I get to donate (this was not on the job ad on Indeed). The job itself is fine, is whatever, but between the chaos of having to schedule my day last minute and never being sure how much I'll make in a month... I need to hightail it out of here.

I get paid on the 15th of May, would it be inappropriate for me to quit right after? I'll give two weeks notice of course. My team leader has been super sweet to me and is already telling me I'm a natural and she wants to promote me inside her team... I did hint at the fact this is just a temporary thing for me and what I really want is an office job, but she keeps insisting I should stay and can earn a lot more here (and tbf she makes €3000/month). To be honest this whole structure feels very pyramid scheme-ish lol minus the fact people don't pay into it.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this or any experience you want to share!

I'll go first:

First day of highschool, slipped and fell in a puddle of vomit, and some kids laughed. Sheepishly went to the bathroom and rinsed my uniform, and put it in my bag. Spent the rest of the day in gym clothes which I luckily had that day, still smelling like vomit though.

Good thing when you don't know anyone yet is nobody remembers.

I've seen some that can potentially be fit into a recessed light, but I'd have to do some research to figure out how to know if the cans are attached to studs. Beyond that, I can't seem to find anything. Anyone have ideas or tips?

I am so exhausted.

My older brother has to be the most selfish egoistic person that exists on this planet. When I meet him everything is "fine" he talks like the friendliest person ever, always has a positive opinion about things and can generally talk very well.

My grandpa died a few months ago so my mother and her brother got the inheritance. Since my mother didn't want anything and left it to her brother our state by law asks the children of the next generation if they want to accept or refuse inheritance.

So my mom didnt want it and she told us to not accept it either. It would be 25% for me and 25% for him.

I said sure, fine - my brother was still thinking about it cause we own a small little "land".

Long story short: My brother talked with my oncle before hand and begged to give him the property and he wouldn't accept the inheritance in exchange. I didn't know about the deal and during all this I questioned the land with my mother and my brother as well but my brother kept saying: "We can't do that, it wouldnt be right to accept the inheritance if mom said we shouldn't."

End of story: I didn't accept it (moral reasons), my brother didn't accept it but he got the land and is now bragging around that he owns land.

I couldn't care less, I got my own stuff but I hate how he handled this whole shi.t making me look like a greedy dude in front of my mother cause I questioned it but during that time he already had a deal with my oncle about it.

Man I hate people.

This isn't the only thing I noticed. I am seeing very clearly 35 years too late. Everytime we go out with his kids I pay for his coffee, I pay entrance to stuff for his kids cause he says "You are the oncle you gotta do it once in a while". Last weekend I visited him for a coffee in his area and we went to the local coffee shop again. I already invited him 5 times and this time he said he would pay. Right before we had to pay he said he has to use the toilet and disapeared for 10 minutes until I was done paying. He does pulls that off every single time.

It's hilarious cause I never really bothered about those small things. Even my father, my stepfather and mother say he is a selfish person and my mother basically disinherited him a few years ago so I will be getting most of my mothers stuff when she passes away.

Yesterday was easter sunday. He visited the "new property" with his wife and children but only invited his wifes family to the BBQ event he planned for his new "yard". My mother, lives about 1 mile away from the property and she didn't get invited. It was her property. She was so mad when she found out they didnt invite her.

My mom called me and said it was the stupidest idea ever to let her brother have everything and if she would have known that my brother did such a deal she wouldn't have let this all happen. Now she has to live with the fact my brothers wifes family being on her old property. I cant pack this whole thing in the topic here but my mother isnt "good" with his wife.

I know I didnt get "ripped off" because I didnt own anything here. But I feel like my brother screwed me. I know I shouldnt feel this way cause it was never my inheritance to begin with.

I have an offgrid solar system and have been wanting to do improve on lighting situation for a while. Got tired of dealing with rechargeable led lanterns burning out and 5v usb bulbs providing just enough.. So, I Made my own offgrid lighting fixture with replaceable led a26 bulbs. I started with a cheap single bulb hanging fixture, cut off the ac outlet end, wired on a 12v car plug, and screwed in a 1-to-3 a26 bulb adapter to get multiple bulbs parallel on the same fixture.

It plugs into my 12v solar system through a car cigarette port plug. I would like to get it on a dimmer at some point but this is sooo nice already. One of the few things I missed was the luxury of good home lighting. It took awhile to figure out a solution that worked.

I was thinking instead of a dimmer switch, maybe power it with a manually adjustable usbc-pd cord. The bulbs are 12-24v. I'm not sure if adjusting the voltage would make it brighter like how I'm expecting though? Is it 6w no matter if 12 or 24v? Might be a fun experiment. Theoretically it's currently consuming 18w to give me afequite home lighting which is about the same as a laptop on at idle. Very nice!
