honestly american diesel/electric trains look so weird, but particularly cab-centre ones

wikipedia says "painted for a 1949 calendar", but i've found an image of it used on a calendar that says 1935/6:

i know the train is a physically minor part of the image; but wow does it set the composition. the stubby little locos are so cute, too. i'm not entirely sure whether i see this as utopian or dystopian: it's nice to have good public transit, but boy does that place look overpopulated. i love the sheer number of smaller distant trains though

concept art for Warhammer Online (presumably age of reckoning)

i don't know why this piece stuck out to me -- i didn't even recognice it as warhammer actually -- but i like the little knot detailing and the little winglets on the sides of the boiler

now it's a bit buried on his site; but i'm pretty sure this is the actual source

EDIT: From @Zeus@lemm.ee's comment:

[the source] says "for the magazine 'populjarnaja mechanika'", and credits dmitri choybolsan (Дмитрий Чойболсан). it's not on the linked portfolio page, but it kind of matches his style(-ish) and it was used for the cover of 2008/№ 11:\

Original post:

I found one version of the image with "© Art. Lebedev Studio", but Wikipedia says:

Art. Lebedev Studio is a design firm in Russia, founded in 1995 by Artemy Lebedev.

~~So I don't think they are the original source, unless this is a modern retro-futuristic design.~~

Source with more images: Taura RPG Chapter Breaks (by Javier Charro - ArtStation)

Chapter break illustrations done on 2017 for a steampunk-alchemy RPG called Taura and published by Nosolorol.
I tried a different technique for this book using some inks and colors. Taura is a dark victorian setting where some people use technology and alchemy to achieve their purposes, sometimes with unexpected results. Automatons, chimeras, and all kind of mixed creatures inhabit this world.
