This is probably some US nonsense where the battery was $220 without tax, and the value at the register for the 99 batteries was with tax.

Or OP meant to say one was $230 and 99 was $22,000.
I like this train of thought, but 99 x 230 = 22,770
The unstated premise being that $22,000 is discounted from $22,770 or OP just remembered the first two digits.
Oh yeah, I like this hypothesis
