Well, there goes Colombian coffee and bananas!

[-] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 37 points 3 days ago

I mean .. they can still come in, they are just 25% more expensive for Americans

[-] qprimed@lemmy.ml 42 points 3 days ago

more. middle-men gonna middle on that 25%.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 22 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

The best middle-men in this situation are the ones sidestepping the tariffs entirely.

Not like Colombia doesn't already have a rich history of smuggling high-demand US contraband over the border, but it will be weird to start getting all my coffee shipped by way of Langley.

[-] tburkhol@lemmy.world 20 points 3 days ago

Even weirder when they start packing coffee in cocaine to throw off the dogs.

Langley

deep, deep burn. CIA flights imminent.

You don't understand, tariff is promoting the emergence of American made alternative, by next week you will find American grown coffee and bananas in the supermarket.

[-] lemonmelon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 days ago

So we're all drinking Kona now?

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 days ago

Coffee is already getting more expensive, I'm assuming everywhere :/

[-] vfreire85@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 days ago

it is. coffee producing regions all over the world are suffering the effects of global warming.

[-] tuxiqae@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 days ago

And 50% more later on :)

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 15 points 3 days ago

Kind of glad I panic-bought ground Columbian coffee and froze it. Not that that's great, but better than nothing.

[-] Serinus@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

But why would you buy ground? A grinder is like $10. You can grind 3-4 days at a time if you don't like cleaning.

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 5 points 3 days ago

It was on sale. I have a grinder.

[-] orcrist@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago

You have to clean your grinder? Mine's going on 5 years without... In answer to your question, I didn't want to clutter up my kitchen, so I wouldn't have bought one on my own, but it was gifted.
