If you want to stay on lemmy.world, you can. As you can see in the comments, everyones username is @username@instance.name, you can follow communities from any lemmy instance and people from any instance can comment.
As for picking an instance, i'd avoid beehaw.org, hexbear.net, lemmygrad.ml and lemmy.ml.
Lemmy.world is frowned upon because its too big, so it has some performance issues and moderation issues.
Queer people suggesting not to join instances fighting for their rights, with 0 given reason is kind of wild not gonna lie
Many of us here are queer as well and I don't think I'll ever understand right-wing LGBT
This was a while ago, but I want to clarify,
I reccommended avoiding beehaw because its typically not what people are looking for out of lemmy. Don't get me wrong, they have a great community and its very well moderated, but its likely not what OP wanted.
I didn't reccommend hex, grad and .ml because of the tankies and because they are controversial and get defederated a lot. I have immense respect for hexbears defense of lgbt rights, but they probably aren't the best for your average lemmy worlder.
I'm not right wing, Im just not a fan of tankies.
