MODERATORS
I'm not going to put much faith in an article which purports to ask the question of why they've done this and gives no answer other than that Trump says it's about "migrants and drugs." I don't know what the real reasons might be, but if there's one thing that's obvious it's that it has nothing at all to do with migrants or drugs.
This is all about migrants and drugs like their election was about eggs, Trump voters were just "economically anxious," and non-voters cared so much about genocide in Palestine. Nonsense.
That said, there's good historical info in this link I didn't know about, like:
and
For anyone scrolling, read a more Canadian perspective about the impact of this trade war here.
That is Trump's official reasoning for the tarifs, although Canada is responsible for <1% of drug imports and illegal immigrants into the States. Makes no sense. I think it's part of a bigger plan to weaken our economy and make the prospect of annexation more likely in the future.
Support Canadian producers and suppliers as much as possible!!!
I believe it is to weaken Americans so they cannot resist the fascist takeover.
Canada holds natural resources that Trump wants to control, including the future potential arctic route.
