So, 99.996% of human history? BTW, breaking a leg wasn't necessarily a death sentence, though you'll think it is if you ever break your femur. Ever been so fucked you couldn't crawl?
Plenty of archeological evidence of healed femurs, and other bones, that indicate the tribe must have taken care of their wounded.
Well, bones heal if there are some love from your close community members for a time.
