Was there anything wrong with c/linuxsucks@lemmy.world ? Maybe madthumbs has other grief with lemmy.world, I'm not sure.

It was an unpopular shitpost community.

As a Linux user, I can enjoy memes about real problems with Linux, but his posting went beyond memes and straight into hate boner territory. He once said something about how open source is bad because a company charging money for services creates jobs.

Anything other than circle jerking about 'Linux bad Windows good' got you banned.

So, it was a problem with the community moderation then. The new community is moderated by the same person, no reason it will go any different then.

[-] BluescreenOfDeath@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Exactly. He's just looking for a place to stake his little fiefdom where he can circle jerk about how bad Linux is, no matter how incorrect he might be. There's no implying that Dear Leader is wrong, just stroke or get banned.

The moderation not so much the content was what was wrong with it.

Linux needs criticism and you hear the voices of the less tech savvy if it wants to grow its user base and gain wider adoption, similar to lemmy. But if that discussion is a bad faith, "Linux is bad and you can't change my mind" posts, with enforcement via moderation, then it's not useful to anyone really.

I use Linux and I think a lot of the criticisms are not only valid, but often hilarious. Everyone who uses Linux has funny stories about fucking up their system doing something they shouldn’t have.

I've totally done some things with dd which could have been in an episode of Silicon Valley.

[-] synapse1278@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

The moderation of the community or the instance? Madthumbs is also the mod at linuxsucks@lemmy.world

[-] CubitOom@infosec.pub 6 points 3 weeks ago

In This specific example, the issue was purely with the community and sole moderator.

[-] synapse1278@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Ok, so the new community will not change anything in that regard.

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world -1 points 3 weeks ago

It was more Kauffman esque performance art.

[-] dustyData@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

I think that's the sad part. They got into genuine flame wars with people. The stuff they'd reply was 100% dead serious and sad. Nothing fun or hilarious in an ironic way. Just angry and sad.
