  • Dude sets up community, is sole moderator
  • Dude sets up autoban bot
  • Sole moderator makes a post
  • Autoban bot deletes the post and bans the sole moderator

Sounds like a typical Microsoft experience.

Made me think of this gem

I'm still not convinced this isn't a bit, performance art, a very dedicated jester of some kind.

It's too perfect.

[-] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 61 points 3 weeks ago

Isn't that the one who thought they were being brigaded when people kept downvoting their posts?

[-] Sturgist@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 weeks ago

Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?

[-] _cryptagion@lemmy.dbzer0.com 33 points 3 weeks ago

Wait, the auto mod permabanned the actual mod? That’s hilarious.

[-] dustyData@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago

Someone misconfigured something. Perhaps if they knew how a computer works this wouldn't have happened.

[-] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 33 points 3 weeks ago

poking fun at its cultish, toxic community.

I don't feel like I'm in a cult.

But then again...that's just what someone in a cult would say...

Oh..God...NOOOOOOOO!!!!!

/s (obviously)

Yes, saw that the other day as well, reminded me of the "flat earth discussion" policy initiated by LW and then cancelled due to the backlash, that was quite something

[-] guynamedzero@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago

Must be out of the loop, what’s LW?

[-] towerful@programming.dev 13 points 3 weeks ago
[-] guynamedzero@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that makes sense

[-] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 17 points 3 weeks ago

A comedy in two acts. Well done.

[-] kabi@lemm.ee 14 points 3 weeks ago

Not sure why that post got removed specifically. I think it was just run of the mill linuxsucksposting.

[-] nesc@lemmy.cafe 18 points 3 weeks ago

Heavy handed moderation as audience likes it.

[-] kbal@fedia.io 9 points 3 weeks ago

It says "automod." Maybe there's a setting where things get deleted and users banned if they instantly get 10000 downvotes.

[-] synapse1278@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago

Was there anything wrong with c/linuxsucks@lemmy.world ? Maybe madthumbs has other grief with lemmy.world, I'm not sure.

[-] BluescreenOfDeath@lemmy.world 19 points 3 weeks ago

It was an unpopular shitpost community.

As a Linux user, I can enjoy memes about real problems with Linux, but his posting went beyond memes and straight into hate boner territory. He once said something about how open source is bad because a company charging money for services creates jobs.

Anything other than circle jerking about 'Linux bad Windows good' got you banned.

[-] synapse1278@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago

So, it was a problem with the community moderation then. The new community is moderated by the same person, no reason it will go any different then.

[-] BluescreenOfDeath@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Exactly. He's just looking for a place to stake his little fiefdom where he can circle jerk about how bad Linux is, no matter how incorrect he might be. There's no implying that Dear Leader is wrong, just stroke or get banned.

[-] CubitOom@infosec.pub 12 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

The moderation not so much the content was what was wrong with it.

Linux needs criticism and you hear the voices of the less tech savvy if it wants to grow its user base and gain wider adoption, similar to lemmy. But if that discussion is a bad faith, "Linux is bad and you can't change my mind" posts, with enforcement via moderation, then it's not useful to anyone really.

[-] _cryptagion@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 3 weeks ago

I use Linux and I think a lot of the criticisms are not only valid, but often hilarious. Everyone who uses Linux has funny stories about fucking up their system doing something they shouldn’t have.

[-] CubitOom@infosec.pub 5 points 3 weeks ago

I've totally done some things with dd which could have been in an episode of Silicon Valley.

[-] synapse1278@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

The moderation of the community or the instance? Madthumbs is also the mod at linuxsucks@lemmy.world

[-] CubitOom@infosec.pub 6 points 3 weeks ago

In This specific example, the issue was purely with the community and sole moderator.

[-] synapse1278@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Ok, so the new community will not change anything in that regard.

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world -1 points 3 weeks ago

It was more Kauffman esque performance art.

[-] dustyData@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

I think that's the sad part. They got into genuine flame wars with people. The stuff they'd reply was 100% dead serious and sad. Nothing fun or hilarious in an ironic way. Just angry and sad.

Jerry was a racecar driver

[-] Arcka@midwest.social 1 points 4 days ago

And he traveled with the carnival shows

[-] Irelephant@lemm.ee 7 points 2 weeks ago

This is like making a penguins suck thread on a forum for penguin enthusiasts.

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

A lock without a key

[-] RoyaltyInTraining@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

I hope they can establish themselves somewhere, I wanna have a good laugh at their opinions every now and then.

[-] ekZepp@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Just a community with a couple of lazy memes. I didn't see what a big problem it may be.
